Yamaha SR-B40A Dolby Atmos Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer

Overview

TV speakers can't reproduce the height and movement built into Dolby Atmos soundtracks. The SR-B40A adds that dimension with a soundbar and wireless subwoofer pair that's simple to set up and noticeably more capable than typical entry-level bars.

The SR-B40A pairs a soundbar rated at 100W (50W per channel) with a wireless 100W subwoofer for 200W combined output. Four 1.8-inch cone drivers and two 1-inch dome tweeters handle the front channels, while Yamaha's virtual surround processing decodes Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby Digital Plus soundtracks to create a sense of height and width from a single bar.

A single HDMI eARC/ARC connection to your TV carries the audio with CEC support for shared remote control, and a digital optical input covers older TVs without eARC. Bluetooth 5.1 handles wireless streaming from your phone, and the Sound Bar Remote app gives you control over surround modes and bass level.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The SR-B40A's wireless subwoofer is genuinely wireless for audio, but it still needs a power outlet nearby — worth planning for when you're picking a spot in a Central Ontario living room, since it doesn't run on battery.

Wireless 100W Subwoofer

A dedicated wireless subwoofer adds low-end weight without running a cable across the room.

200W Combined Output

50W per channel from the bar plus 100W from the subwoofer for real headroom.

HDMI eARC/ARC with CEC

Single-cable TV connection with CEC support so one remote can control both.

Sound Bar Remote App Control

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The TV Upgrader: wants a clear step up from built-in TV speakers without running speaker wire.
  • The Space-Conscious Room: wants a wireless subwoofer that can be placed away from the soundbar itself.
  • The Simple Setup: wants Dolby Atmos processing without a full AV receiver and multi-speaker system.

How It Compares

The SR-B40A adds a wireless subwoofer over the SR-B30A, which builds its two subwoofer drivers directly into the bar for a single-cabinet system at lower total output (120W versus 200W). For an even more compact footprint, the SR-C20A trades the wireless subwoofer for a built-in one in a shorter bar suited to smaller rooms or desks.
