Sony WH-CH720 Over-Ear Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones
Overview
The Sony WH-CH720N brings genuine Active Noise Cancellation to a budget-friendly price point. It uses Dual Noise Sensor technology and Sony's Integrated Processor V1 to reduce background noise, and at just 192 grams it's one of Sony's lightest wireless noise cancelling headphones.
Ambient Sound mode adjusts across 20 levels through the Sony | Sound Connect app, and Adaptive Sound Control automatically switches settings based on where you are and what you're doing. Multipoint connection keeps you paired to two devices at once, and DSEE restores detail to compressed music files.
Rated for up to 35 hours of battery life with noise cancelling on (50 hours with it off), the WH-CH720N is built for long days without a charge, backed by a quick top-up that adds an hour of playback in just 3 minutes.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The WH-CH720N is a strong pick if you want real ANC without paying flagship prices. It skips the premium materials and LDAC support of Sony's XM series, but for commuting and everyday use, the Integrated Processor V1 delivers noise cancelling performance well above typical budget headphones.

Why the Sony WH-CH720N Stands Out
Integrated Processor V1 Noise Cancelling
Dual Noise Sensor technology paired with the Integrated Processor V1 delivers effective, low-latency noise cancelling that punches above its price point.
20-Level Ambient Sound Mode
Adjust how much of the outside world you hear across 20 levels, or use the Focus on Voice setting to hold a conversation without removing your headphones.
Adaptive Sound Control
Automatically adjusts ambient sound settings based on your location and activity, and can recognize frequently visited places like your workplace or gym.
Up to 35 Hours of Battery Life
Rated for up to 35 hours with noise cancelling on (50 hours with it off), plus a 3-minute quick charge for up to an hour of extra playback.
Multipoint Connection
Stay paired to a laptop and a smartphone at the same time, with automatic switching for incoming calls.
Beamforming Microphones
Beamforming microphones with Precise Voice Pickup and a Wind Noise Reduction Structure help keep calls clear in a range of environments.
DSEE Sound Restoration
Restores high-frequency detail lost when music is compressed for streaming, so compressed tracks sound closer to the original recording.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- Daily commuters: who want real noise cancelling without spending flagship money.
- Remote workers: who need clear calls and a lightweight fit for long days of video meetings.
- Budget-conscious travellers: who want long battery life and effective ANC for flights without a heavy price tag.
How It Compares
For buyers who want Sony's most capable noise cancelling, premium materials, and LDAC hi-res support, the Sony WH-1000XM5 remains the step-up option. The WH-CH720N trades some of that refinement for a much lower price while still delivering genuine ANC performance.
