Overview

The Sony SRS-XB100 is a palm-sized Bluetooth speaker built to go anywhere without weighing you down. At just 274g and roughly the size of a coffee mug (76mm diameter x 95mm), it's small enough for a jacket pocket or the side of a bag, yet its full-range driver and passive radiator deliver surprisingly punchy bass for its size.

An IP67 rating means it's fully dustproof and can handle submersion in up to 1 metre of water for 30 minutes, so it's just as at home by the pool or in the shower as it is on a desk. Up to 16 hours of battery life keeps the music going through a full day and beyond, and USB-C charging keeps you from needing a separate cable for it.

Bluetooth 5.3 with hands-free calling support and stereo pairing (add a second XB100 for true left/right sound) round out a feature set that's rare at this size and price.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The XB100 is an honest, well-built secondary speaker rather than a main system replacement — it excels as a grab-and-go option for the garage, the beach, or a bathroom shelf, and the included strap makes it easy to hang wherever you need it.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

• The minimalist traveler: who wants the lightest possible audio option that still delivers a satisfying bass response.

How It Compares

The SRS-XB100 is an ultra-portable, single-driver speaker intended for personal listening. If you need to fill a large backyard or a noisy party, the Sony ULT Field 1 offers significantly more volume and a dedicated bass boost button. If you're looking for a more room-filling sound with a companion app for EQ customization, the JBL Flip 7 is the logical next step up in output and features.
