Klipsch RP-500SA II Dolby Atmos® Elevation / Surround Speaker

Overview

Adding real overhead Dolby Atmos effects usually means cutting into a finished ceiling, which isn't always possible or worth the disruption. The Klipsch RP-500SA II delivers that height effect without any construction.

The RP-500SA II is a Dolby Atmos elevation and surround speaker that can sit on top of a compatible floorstanding or bookshelf speaker to bounce sound off the ceiling, or wall-mount via keyhole slots as a height or side surround channel. A 1" titanium LTS vented tweeter pairs with a larger 90° x 90° silicone composite hybrid Tractrix horn for crisp highs, and a 5.25" Cerametallic woofer handles midrange with low distortion.

A switchable crossover on the rear panel optimizes the speaker's electronics for either Atmos (up-firing) or Surround (direct-firing) use, so the same speaker adapts to how it's mounted. Additional cabinet bracing minimizes resonance, and the input panel uses audiophile-grade wiring with aluminum binding posts.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

For Central Ontario clients who can't or don't want to cut into a finished ceiling, the RP-500SA II's switchable crossover is what makes it genuinely dual-purpose — set it to Atmos mode on top of a tower for height effects today, or move it to a wall as a surround channel later, without buying a different speaker.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The No-Drill Enthusiast: wants Atmos height channels without in-ceiling installation.
  • The Reference Premiere System Owner: wants an aesthetic and tonal match for RP-series towers and bookshelves.
  • The Versatile Room Builder: needs a speaker that can serve as a height channel today and a surround channel tomorrow.

How It Compares

The RP-500SA II shares its driver technology with the RP-500M II and RP-500C II, but trades the ported cabinet for a sealed enclosure and an Atmos-specific switchable crossover built for this exact use case. For buyers building a more accessible Reference-series system, the Klipsch R-40SA offers similar dual-purpose functionality at a lower price point.
