Klipsch RP-404C II Center Channel Speaker
Overview
A shallow media console or a fireplace mantle usually rules out a serious centre channel speaker, since most designs need several inches of rear clearance to sound right. The Klipsch RP-404C II solves that without giving up Reference Premiere performance.
The RP-404C II pairs a 1" titanium Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) tweeter with a larger 90° x 90° silicone composite hybrid Tractrix horn for crisp, detailed highs, and four 4" Cerametallic woofers for a rich, authoritative midrange. Unlike most centre channels, it uses a sealed enclosure rather than a ported one, so it can sit flush against a wall or inside a shallow cabinet without the bass-loading distortion a ported design would suffer in that spot.
At just 6.47" deep, it fits where deeper centre channels can't, and cork pads replace rubber bumpers for secure, vibration-damped placement on a mantle or shelf. Additional internal bracing minimizes cabinet resonance, and aluminum binding posts round out the input panel.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
For Central Ontario clients mounting a TV above a fireplace or working with a shallow media console, the RP-404C II's sealed cabinet is the detail that actually solves the problem — most centre channels need breathing room behind them to avoid a boomy, muddy sound, but this one is tuned for tight placement from the start.

Shallow Sealed Cabinet Design
At just 6.47" deep, it fits flush against walls or inside shallow cabinets without bass-loading distortion.
Four Cerametallic Woofers
Four 4" woofers deliver a rich, authoritative midrange for clear dialogue.
Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter
Minimizes distortion and standing waves for detailed, clear highs.
Larger Hybrid Tractrix Horn
A 90° x 90° silicone composite horn improves high-frequency transfer into the room.
Cork Pads for Secure Placement
Replace rubber bumpers for secure, vibration-damped placement on a mantle or shelf.
Reinforced, Low-Resonance Cabinet
Additional internal bracing keeps vocals clear even at higher volumes.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- The Mantle & Console User: needs a high-performance speaker for a shallow shelf or fireplace mantle installation.
- The In-Wall Candidate: wants a centre channel that fits into custom millwork or shallow wall cavities.
- The Reference Premiere System Owner: wants a tonal match for RP-series towers or bookshelves without the depth of a standard centre channel.
How It Compares
The RP-404C II is Klipsch's shallow-depth solution within the Reference Premiere centre channel lineup. If you have the room for a deeper cabinet and want more low-end punch and a larger soundstage, the RP-504C II or RP-500C MKII are the natural step-up options within the same series.
