FiiO Darkside Pro Regulated Linear Power Supply

Overview

The stock switching-mode power adapter that ships with most desktop DACs and amplifiers is built for cost and size, not for keeping electrical noise away from sensitive analog circuitry.

The FiiO Darkside Pro is a regulated linear power supply built to replace that stock adapter. It uses a 75W toroidal transformer, a fully discrete NMOS regulator circuit with dual IRFZ34NPBF MOSFETs and an LT431 voltage reference, and a switchable 12V/15V output at up to 3A, aiming to deliver cleaner, more stable power than a typical switching adapter.

A heavy-duty unibody aluminum chassis is designed to resist resonance and block EMI, with a 3-LED voltage display and a precision potentiometer for fine voltage adjustment.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

Before pairing the Darkside Pro with a specific FiiO component, confirm that device accepts 12V or 15V DC power through a GX16-2 connector — FiiO's own page doesn't publish a specific compatible-model list, so it's worth checking the target device's own power requirements rather than assuming compatibility from the category alone.

Why the FiiO Darkside Pro Stands Out

75W Toroidal Transformer

A grain-oriented silicon steel core transformer is built for higher efficiency and reduced eddy currents.

Fully Discrete NMOS Regulator

Dual IRFZ34NPBF MOSFETs and an LT431 voltage reference form a discrete regulation circuit aimed at low noise and fast transient response.

Switchable 12V/15V Output at Up to 3A

A physical selector switch lets one power supply serve devices with either voltage requirement.

Ultra-Low Ripple

Rated at 30µVrms (A-weighted) ripple, with a precision potentiometer for ±0.2V fine voltage calibration.

Heavy-Duty Unibody Aluminum Chassis

Built to resist resonance and block EMI, with a 3-LED voltage display for at-a-glance monitoring.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Desktop DAC/Amp Owner: wants to replace a stock switching adapter with a cleaner linear power supply on a compatible 12V/15V device.
  • The Noise-Conscious Listener: wants lower ripple and a discrete regulator circuit feeding sensitive analog gear.
  • The System Builder: wants one power supply that can serve either a 12V or 15V device via its selector switch.

How It Compares

The Darkside Pro sits above the PL50 in FiiO's linear power supply lineup, with a larger 75W transformer and a fully discrete NMOS regulator design, compared to the PL50's 50W transformer and Texas Instruments regulator chip.
