Bowers & Wilkins HTM82 D4 Center Channel Speaker - (Each)

Overview

Clear dialogue is the first thing a home theatre needs to get right, and that job falls to the centre channel.

The Bowers & Wilkins HTM82 D4 is a 3-way vented-box centre-channel speaker and the most compact in the 800 Series Diamond range. It has a 25mm Diamond dome tweeter in a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing, a dedicated 130mm Continuum cone FST midrange and two 165mm Aerofoil cone bass units, in a Reverse Wrap cabinet.

Bowers & Wilkins designed it for theatre systems based on the 803 D4 or 804 D4. Frequency response is 45Hz to 28kHz (±3dB) with 89dB sensitivity and an 8Ω nominal impedance (3.0Ω minimum), and the recommended amplifier power is 50W to 200W into 8Ω.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

At 715mm wide and 25.15kg, the HTM82 D4 is easier to fit under or above a screen than the larger HTM81 D4, though a stand is not included. We can talk through placement and how it will blend with the rest of your speakers.

Why the Bowers & Wilkins HTM82 D4 Stands Out

Dedicated Midrange Cone

The HTM82 D4 has a dedicated midrange cone that uses the Continuum cone, Biomimetic Suspension and midrange decoupling to minimize interference from the bass drivers.

Continuum Cone Midrange

Bowers & Wilkins says the Continuum cone has exceptionally low noise, for outstanding resolution without coloration or masking of detail.

Reverse Wrap Cabinet

The cabinet is made from a continuous curved section of wood with the drive units mounted at the heart of the curvature, which resists mechanical resonances and improves sound dispersion.

Diamond Dome Tweeter

A 25mm Diamond dome in a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing handles the high frequencies up to 35kHz.

Twin Aerofoil Bass Units

Two 165mm (6.5 in) Aerofoil cone bass units and a Flowport handle the low end.

Sized for the 803 D4 and 804 D4

Its more compact midrange drive unit is sized to match those of its siblings in the range.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The 803 D4 or 804 D4 Owner: is building a theatre system around those floorstanders and wants a matching centre speaker.
  • The Space-Limited Theatre Owner: needs a centre speaker that is 715mm wide.
  • The Moderate-Power Amplifier Owner: has an amplifier in the 50W to 200W range Bowers & Wilkins recommends.

How It Compares

The HTM81 D4 is the larger centre speaker, with a 150mm Continuum cone FST midrange, two 200mm Aerofoil bass units, a 847mm wide cabinet and a recommended 50W to 500W. Bowers & Wilkins designed it to partner the 801 D4 and 802 D4, while the HTM82 D4 is the more compact option for the 803 D4 and 804 D4.
