Ortofon 2M Blue Moving Magnet Cartridge
Overview
A stylus bonded to a metal shank adds mass right where a cartridge needs to move the least, and that extra mass can round off the fine detail at the top end of a record.
The Ortofon 2M Blue is a moving magnet phono cartridge built around a nude-mounted elliptical diamond, removing the metal shank a bonded stylus relies on and reducing the moving mass at the stylus tip. Split pole pin technology helps keep the frequency response flat across the audible range, and an aluminium cantilever keeps the stylus assembly light without sacrificing rigidity.
Output is rated at 5.5mV with 25dB of channel separation at 1kHz, and it's built to run into a standard 47kOhm phono input with 150 to 300pF of load capacitance, covering the majority of moving magnet phono stages without extra adjustment. It mounts to any standard half-inch headshell.
