FiiO SA1 Active Desktop Speakers with Phono Preamp
Overview
The FiiO SA1 replaces a tangle of separate boxes — a phono preamp, a DAC, an amplifier — with one compact pair of desktop speakers, so a turntable, a laptop, and a phone can all run through the same setup without extra hardware on the desk.
The SA1 is FiiO's entry-level active desktop speaker, built around two ES9068AS DAC chips and two Texas Instruments TPA3118 Class D amplifiers that drive a 3.5-inch wood fibre woofer and a ¾-inch aluminum-magnesium tweeter in each speaker across a two-way active crossover. A built-in RIAA phono preamp lets a turntable connect directly through the RCA input, and Bluetooth 5.4 with LDAC brings Hi-Res Audio Wireless to the desktop without a cable.
Round that out with 3.5mm, USB-C, coaxial, and optical inputs, 8GB of built-in storage with microSD card support, and a 31-band parametric EQ in the FiiO Control app, and the SA1 covers most of what a desktop listening setup needs from a single pair of speakers.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The built-in phono preamp is what sets the SA1 apart from most desktop speaker pairs we carry — it means a turntable without its own preamp (only a PHONO OUT connection) can run straight into the RCA input without a separate phono stage taking up desk space. If a turntable already has a built-in preamp, like FiiO's own TT13, switching the SA1's input to standard RCA instead of PHONO avoids double-amplifying the signal.

Why the FiiO SA1 Stands Out
Built-In Phono Preamp
A dedicated RIAA stage on the RCA input lets a turntable without its own preamp connect directly, without an extra box on the desk.
Five-Way Connectivity
RCA, 3.5mm, USB-C, coaxial, and optical inputs cover a turntable, a computer, a TV, or a phone from the same pair of speakers.
LDAC Hi-Res Bluetooth
Bluetooth 5.4 with LDAC is Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified, carrying more detail over a wireless connection than standard Bluetooth.
31-Band Parametric EQ
The FiiO Control app allows lossless, high-precision tuning across 31 bands, useful for correcting bass buildup when the speakers sit close to a wall.
Dual DAC, Dual Amp Design
Two ES9068AS DAC chips, one per channel, pair with two Texas Instruments TPA3118 Class D amplifiers for a four-way power output of 20W+20W to the woofers and 5W+5W to the tweeters.
Standalone Playback
8GB of built-in storage plus microSD card support means the SA1 can play music on its own, without a connected source.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- The Desktop Turntable Owner: wants to connect a record player directly without buying a separate phono preamp.
- The Multi-Source Listener: wants RCA, digital, USB, and Bluetooth inputs on one compact speaker pair.
- The Detail-Oriented Listener: wants to fine-tune the sound with a 31-band parametric EQ rather than a basic bass/treble dial.
How It Compares
The SA1 sits at the compact end of FiiO's active speaker lineup. Stepping up to the FiiO SP5 trades the built-in phono preamp for a larger 5.25-inch driver and an XLR balanced input, with more than triple the power output at 60W+20W per channel versus the SA1's 20W+5W — a better fit for bigger rooms, at a higher price and a larger footprint on the desk. For most desktop setups, the SA1's smaller size and built-in phono stage make it the easier fit.
