FiiO MELODY Portable Wood-Bodied DAC and Headphone Amplifier
Overview
Most dongle DACs come in the same handful of anodized metal finishes, which can feel out of place next to a desk or listening space built around warmer, natural materials.
The FiiO MELODY is a portable USB-C DAC and headphone amplifier housed in solid, aged North American wood — available in Maple or Walnut, with each unit's grain and colour varying naturally piece to piece. It decodes PCM up to 384kHz/32-bit and native DSD64/128/256, with a 3.5mm single-ended output (shared with a coaxial digital output) and a 4.4mm balanced output capable of more than 250mW+250mW into 32Ω.
An RGB ambient light ring indicates the incoming sample rate and format at a glance, and 8GB of onboard storage — expandable to 256GB via microSD — lets it play local files without relying on phone storage. A 10-band parametric EQ is adjustable through the FiiO Control app on Android or through a browser-based control link.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
MELODY's button behaviour is fully reconfigurable between two control modes — one where a short press adjusts volume and a long press skips tracks, and another where those roles are reversed — so it's worth spending a minute in the FiiO Control app or web control page after unboxing to pick whichever layout feels more natural. Note that on-device EQ and button-mode control currently works through Android or a browser; FiiO's iOS app cannot connect to MELODY due to a platform restriction.

Why the FiiO MELODY Stands Out
Solid Wood Housing
Built from aged North American Maple or Walnut, with each unit's grain and colour naturally unique.
Balanced 4.4mm Output Over 250mW
Delivers more than 250mW+250mW into 32Ω from the balanced output, alongside a separate 3.5mm single-ended and coaxial-shared output.
8GB Onboard Storage with microSD Expansion
Stores files directly on the device, with support for microSD cards up to 256GB for a larger local library.
10-Band Parametric EQ
Adjustable and shareable through the FiiO Control app on Android or a web-based control link.
RGB Format Indicator Ring
A light ring around the device shows the incoming sample rate and format without needing to check an app.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- The Design-Conscious Listener: wants a dongle DAC that looks and feels warmer than a typical metal-bodied unit.
- The Local-File Listener: wants onboard and expandable storage so playback doesn't depend on phone storage space.
- The EQ Tuner: wants a shareable, adjustable 10-band EQ without hunting through generic phone settings.
How It Compares
MELODY sits alongside FiiO's KA-series and QX13 dongle DAC/amps but takes a different approach to both materials and functionality: its solid wood housing replaces their metal bodies, and its 8GB of onboard storage with microSD expansion is a feature those metal dongles don't include.
