Bowers & Wilkins HTM81 D4 Center Channel Speaker - (Each)

Overview

In a home theatre, most of the dialogue comes from the centre channel, so it needs to match the quality of the left and right speakers beside it.

The Bowers & Wilkins HTM81 D4 is a 3-way vented-box centre-channel speaker and the largest in the 800 Series Diamond range. It combines a 25mm Diamond dome tweeter in a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing, a 150mm Continuum cone FST midrange and two 200mm Aerofoil cone bass units mounted in twin solid aluminium bass pods.

Bowers & Wilkins designed it to partner the 801 D4 and 802 D4. Frequency response is 28Hz to 28kHz (±3dB) with 90dB sensitivity and an 8Ω nominal impedance (3.0Ω minimum), and the recommended amplifier power is 50W to 500W into 8Ω.

Why the Bowers & Wilkins HTM81 D4 Stands Out

Diamond Dome Tweeter

Bowers & Wilkins describes it as the combination of low mass, exceptional stiffness and outstanding accuracy, and says that 15 years after introducing it, it has not found a better tweeter dome technology.

Decoupled Continuum Cone Midrange

A 150mm (6 in) Continuum cone FST midrange handles the voices and detail that matter most in a centre channel.

Aerofoil Bass Cones

Bowers & Wilkins says the carbon-fibre skin and variable-profile foam core combine low mass and high stiffness, and the foam Anti-Resonance Plug adds lower distortion and cleaner bass.

Aluminium Bass Pods

Two Aerofoil bass cones are mounted in twin solid aluminium bass pods, each clamped into an aluminium plate fixed to the stiffest part of the curved cabinet.

Made for the 801 D4 and 802 D4

Bowers & Wilkins says it has the scale and midrange extension to match its larger stablemates.

Amplifier Flexibility

Rated at 90dB sensitivity with a recommended 50W to 500W into 8Ω.
