Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Stand Mount Speakers - (Pair)

Overview

The Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 is a two-way 700 Series stand-mount speaker with a Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter and a 6.5-inch Continuum cone bass/midrange driver. B&W says the Carbon Dome tweeter and an improved crossover give exceptional detail and insight into your music.

The Carbon Dome tweeter, purpose-built for the 700 Series, raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz. The substantial 165 mm (6.5 in) Continuum cone, which avoids the abrupt transitions of conventional cones, provides the scale and extension B&W designed it to deliver in larger spaces. A Flowport vent handles the low end.

B&W rates the 706 S3 at 50Hz to 28kHz (±3dB), with a range of 45Hz to 33kHz, 88dB sensitivity, and an 8-ohm nominal load, suited to amplifiers from 30W to 120W. Stands are sold separately.

Why the Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Stands Out

Decoupled Carbon Dome Tweeter

Purpose-built for the 700 Series, B&W's Carbon Dome tweeter raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz for pinpoint imaging and detail.

6.5-Inch Continuum Cone Driver

A substantial Continuum bass/midrange for scale and extension in larger spaces.

Improved Crossover

B&W credits the improved crossover, with the Carbon Dome tweeter, for detail and insight.

Flowport with Foam Plugs

Supplied foam plugs fit the port to reduce bass on a shelf or near a wall.

Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp Terminals

Remove the terminal links to bi-wire or bi-amp; B&W notes bi-wiring can improve the resolution of low-level detail.

Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Stand Mount Speakers - (Pair) FAQs

What amplifier power suits the Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3?

B&W recommends 30W to 120W into 8 ohms. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms (minimum 3.7 ohms) and sensitivity is 88dB.

Are stands included?

No. B&W designed the 706 S3 mainly for its FS-700 S3 floor stand, sold separately.

Can the 706 S3 go on a shelf?

Yes, though B&W notes it gives less flexibility to fine-tune the sound. Fit the supplied foam plugs in the ports to reduce bass in that position.

Can the 706 S3 be bi-wired or bi-amped?

Yes. Remove the terminal links and connect each pair of terminals to the amplifier or amplifiers separately.
