Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3 Signature Floor Standing Speakers - (Pair)

Overview

The Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3 Signature takes B&W's flagship 700 Series tower and, in B&W's words, evolves it to deliver unparalleled levels of performance. It is a three-way floorstanding speaker with a Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter in a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing, a 6-inch Continuum cone FST midrange, and three 6.5-inch Aerofoil Profile bass cones.

The Signature model adds refined midrange and low-frequency motor systems, improved capacitors, revised speaker terminals, and a more open tweeter grille mesh, all developed for B&W's 800 Series Signature loudspeakers. B&W calls its 700 Series Signature models the best of its best.

B&W rates the 702 S3 Signature at 46Hz to 28kHz (±3dB), with a -6dB range of 28Hz to 33kHz, 90dB sensitivity, and an 8-ohm nominal load, suited to amplifiers from 30W to 300W. Each speaker stands on a supplied plinth.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The published acoustic specs match the standard 702 S3; the Signature difference is in the motor systems, capacitors, terminals, and tweeter grille mesh. It is the pick when those component refinements matter, and like the 702 S3 its terminals support bi-wiring or bi-amping once the links are removed.

Why the Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3 Signature Stands Out

800 Series Signature Refinements

Refined midrange and bass motor systems, improved capacitors, and revised terminals, as developed for the 800 Series Signature models.

More Open Tweeter Grille Mesh

A more open mesh in front of the Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter.

Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top

An elongated housing milled from a single block of aluminium and decoupled from the cabinet, with longer tube-loading for a free, open top end.

Continuum Cone FST Midrange

A decoupled midrange with Biomimetic Suspension that avoids the abrupt transitions of conventional cones, for precise, transparent voices.

Three Aerofoil Profile Bass Cones

Developed with computer modelling, the variable-thickness Aerofoil cone adds stiffness where it matters for deep, dynamic bass.

Plinth with Spike and Rubber Feet

Each tower stands on its supplied plinth, which B&W says must always be used, with spike or rubber feet.

Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp Ready

Remove the terminal links to bi-wire or bi-amplify.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Two-Channel Listener: Wants the most refined version of the 702 S3 for a stereo system.
  • The Bi-Amp Enthusiast: Wants terminals that support bi-wiring or bi-amping once the links are removed.
  • The Home Theatre Builder: Wants flagship 700 Series towers for the front stage.

How It Compares

The standard 702 S3 shares the same driver line-up and published acoustic specs. The Signature adds 800 Series Signature-derived motor systems, capacitors, terminals, and tweeter mesh.
