Even small speed deviations affect pitch, timing, and tonal balance, so a quick check gives you confidence your records are playing exactly as they should.

To use it, place the disc on your platter, start the turntable, and view it under a standard mains-powered lamp. Circular dashes on the ring matching your speed will appear to stand still when the speed is correct; if they drift forward or backward, your turntable's speed needs adjustment.
