FiiO Q7 Balanced Portable Desktop DAC/Headphone Amp
Overview
The FiiO Q7 is a portable DAC and headphone amplifier with desktop-level power, built around an ESS ES9038PRO DAC and two THX AAA 788+ amplifiers in a fully balanced design. It's for listeners who want one unit that drives demanding full-size headphones at a desk on its DC power supply, then goes in a bag on battery, with USB, optical, coaxial and Bluetooth inputs.
On battery, super high gain gives up to 1500mW per channel into 32 ohms from the 4.4mm and 2.5mm balanced outputs and 550mW from the 3.5mm and 6.35mm outputs. Plug in the included custom 24W low-noise power supply and the Q7 switches to DC mode, bypassing the battery and unlocking ultra high gain: 3000mW balanced and 1100mW single-ended into 32 ohms, with balanced SNR of 125dB. An XMOS XU316 handles USB up to 768kHz/32-bit and native DSD512, with 8x MQA unfolding.
A Qualcomm QCC5124 adds Bluetooth 5.0 with LDAC, aptX Adaptive and aptX HD, and optical and coaxial inputs take digital sources. The 3.5mm and 4.4mm jacks double as line outputs, and a 1.3-inch colour screen and multi-function knob show sample rate, codec and settings. The 9200mAh battery runs up to 11 hours single-ended or 9 hours balanced, and FiiO includes a cooling stand, power adapter, leatherette case and four cables.

Treat the Q7 as two devices: on a desk, use the included 24W power supply and cooling stand so it runs in DC mode with the battery bypassed and the full 3000mW available for full-size or planar headphones. On the go, super high gain on battery still gives 1500mW balanced, which covers most headphones. Use the 4.4mm or 2.5mm balanced outputs for the most power, and lower the gain for sensitive IEMs.
