FiiO FT13 Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones with Wood Earcups
Overview
The FiiO FT13 is a closed-back, wired over-ear headphone with a 60mm dynamic driver and natural purpleheart wood earcups. It's for listeners who want warm, rich sound and good isolation from an easy-to-drive headphone, with two earpad options and one cable that adapts to almost any source.
The 60mm driver uses a wood-fibre diaphragm made from cold-climate European birch, blended with carbon fibre and pressed to just 0.1mm thick using a century-old papermaking method. FiiO's W-shaped diaphragm increases the effective vibrating area by 25.8%, and a 25mm voice coil wound with ultra-fine 0.035mm Japanese CCAW wire on a light KSV former keeps response quick. A standing-wave chamber, rear-cavity damping and a U-shaped tube cut everyday noise by up to 26dB and deepen the bass. At 32 ohms and 98dB/mW (113dB/Vrms), it's easy to drive.
The purpleheart earcups are kiln-stabilized, CNC-carved and lacquered, and they darken naturally with age, so each pair is unique. The headband uses a magnesium alloy frame with a ball-bearing slider, and the FT13 weighs about 356g. Two pad sets are included: lambskin for detailed treble and quick bass, and suede for fuller bass and richer vocals. One 8-strand cable with 1,000 Furukawa monocrystalline and silver-plated copper wires takes swappable 3.5mm and 4.4mm plugs, with 6.35mm and XLR-4 adapters.
