Klipsch RP-1200SW 12" High Excursion Subwoofer

Overview

A larger room or a dedicated home theatre needs more subwoofer than a compact 10" driver can deliver, and running out of headroom is the fastest way to lose the impact of a movie soundtrack. The Klipsch RP-1200SW is built for that scale.

The RP-1200SW is a 12" powered subwoofer built around a Cerametallic woofer engineered for high excursion and low distortion at high output. A Class D amplifier with an analog preamp design delivers 400W RMS (800W peak) while keeping the signal path clean and true-to-source.

A front-firing driver with an Aerofoil slot port minimizes turbulence for tight, controlled bass and lets you place the subwoofer virtually anywhere in the room. The MDF cabinet is finished in scratch-resistant ebony vinyl with rounded corners, shock-absorbing rubber feet, and a durable woven cloth grille, and it's wireless-ready with the Klipsch WA-2 kit (sold separately).

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

For Central Ontario clients with larger great rooms or dedicated theatres, the RP-1200SW's extra cone area over the RP-1000SW means it reaches reference output levels with less strain, which usually translates into cleaner, more controlled bass rather than just more volume.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Large-Room Home Theatre Owner: needs more cone area and output than a smaller sub can provide.
  • The Reference Premiere System Owner: pairs naturally with Klipsch RP-Series tower and bookshelf speakers.
  • The Action-Movie Fan: wants extra headroom for demanding low-frequency effects.

How It Compares

The RP-1200SW sits above the RP-1000SW in Klipsch's Reference Premiere subwoofer lineup. Both share the same Cerametallic woofer and Class D amplifier design, but the RP-1200SW's larger 12" driver and 400W amplifier extend response further (16.5Hz vs. 19Hz) and add headroom (119dB vs. 118dB). For a typical living room, the RP-1000SW is plenty; for a larger space or reference-level output, the RP-1200SW is the stronger choice.
