player that attaches to Mojo 2 or the original Mojo, letting you stream music wirelessly to the DAC from your phone, tablet, computer, or network, or play files stored on its own Micro SD card. Chord calls it the first streamer of its kind in the world, and it lets you hear streamed music through Mojo's DAC at home or on the go.

Poly handles the connection and Mojo handles the audio processing. Your smartphone becomes the controller, using familiar apps, while Poly receives the music over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, or DLNA and passes it straight to Mojo 2 or Mojo. It's Roon Ready, can reach music on NAS drives through DLNA apps, and Chord lists it as 'Plays with Audirvāna' certified.

The Micro SD slot has unlimited capacity, so a full music library can live on Poly instead of your phone. Playback goes up to 768kHz PCM and DSD64 to DSD256, with support for FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, OGG Vorbis, WMA, MP3, and AAC files. Without that second cable, you still get a legitimate 300mW balanced in Normal Mode, which is already more than most competing dongles offer. The 10-band PEQ is also genuinely useful here since it's adjustable through the FiiO Control app or fiio.com without needing the KA17 connected to a phone with the app installed, which is a nice touch if you mostly use it with a laptop or desktop.

Best for the FiiO KA17: Run it in Desktop Mode with both USB-C ports connected when at a desk to unlock the full 650mW balanced output, and drop back to a single cable in Normal Mode for portable listening where 300mW balanced is still plenty for most headphones.

More Details

Why It Wins

Dual ESS ES9069Q DAC Chips: two flagship DACs handle the left and right channels independently for a cleaner, more detailed audio background than a shared single-DAC design.

Quad THX AAA-788+ Balanced Amplification: a four-channel fully balanced amp circuit delivering up to 650mW+650mW (4.4mm balanced, 32Ω) in Desktop Mode.

Desktop Mode with Dual USB-C: a dedicated switch and second USB-C port reconfigure the DAC, power supply, and amplifier for maximum output when connected to external power.

What Makes It Different

Most dongle DACs run entirely off the power delivered through a single USB-C data connection, which caps how much output power they can realistically deliver. That DAC uses 192 precision thin-film resistors to convert the signal, which is what gives R2R DACs their characteristically natural, analog-like presentation, and a switchable NOS (Non-Oversampling) and OS (Oversampling) mode lets you choose between the DAC's raw, unprocessed sound or a smoother oversampled character depending on the recording. It takes USB-C, optical, and coaxial digital inputs and outputs through 6.35mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced headphone jacks plus an RCA line-out, with up to 1300mW+1300mW balanced into 32 ohms. Amplification comes from two THX AAA-788+ modules wired in a 4-way fully balanced circuit, so headphones that usually need a dedicated desktop amp can run straight off the Q7's battery or its 24W DC power supply. That dual power arrangement is the standout here: in battery mode you get up to 1500mW per channel (32Ω) balanced, and switching to DC power roughly doubles that to 3000mW, all without giving up portability.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The detail that matters most with the Q7 is DC power mode: plug it into the included power supply instead of running on battery, and the balanced output roughly doubles from 1500mW to 3000mW per channel, which is the difference between comfortably driving an efficient IEM and having enough headroom for power-hungry planar headphones. Most people will use battery mode for portable listening and switch to DC mode when the Q7 is sitting on a desk feeding a full-size headphone. Also worth noting: the line outputs share the 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced jacks with the headphone outputs, so if you want to run the Q7 as a source into a separate amp, you're using the same physical ports rather than dedicated line-out jacks.

Best for the FiiO Q7: Keep it on DC power at a desk when driving planar or high-impedance headphones, and switch to battery mode for portable listening with easier-to-drive IEMs or over-ears; the same unit covers both without any setting changes beyond gain.

More Details

Why It Wins

ESS ES9038PRO DAC with Dual THX AAA-788+ Amps: a desktop-calibre DAC/amp combination in a fully balanced 4-way circuit, built for driving harder headphones than a typical portable amp.

Dual Power Modes: switch between 9200mAh battery power and a 24W DC supply, roughly doubling balanced output from 1500mW to 3000mW per channel.

Broad Format and Codec Support: PCM up to 768kHz/32-bit, native DSD512, 8x MQA unfolding, and Qualcomm QCC5124 Bluetooth with LDAC, aptX Adaptive, and aptX HD.

What Makes It Different

Most portable DAC/amps top out well below 1000mW balanced because they're built around a single power source and a compact amp section. Wire it to your router with Ethernet rather than relying on the built-in Wi-Fi if you can; a wired connection is generally the more stable choice for continuous network audio streaming.

Best for the FiiO K15 Desktop DAC and Network Headphone Amplifier: Connect it to your network over Gigabit Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi where possible, and reserve the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth inputs for casual or mobile-device listening — the wired connection is the more consistent path for network audio.

More Details

Why It Wins

Dual AKM AK4497S DACs on a fully balanced circuit: A balanced signal path from conversion through amplification, built specifically to reduce noise and crosstalk.

Gigabit Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi network audio: Functions as a standalone network endpoint, not just a USB DAC, so it can sit on a shelf and pull audio from other devices on the network.

Up to 3000mW balanced output into 32 ohms: Considerably more headphone power than a USB-only DAC/amp in a similar size.

What Makes It Different

Most desktop DAC/amps at this level are USB-first designs that treat network streaming as an afterthought, if they include it at all. It takes in USB, coaxial, optical, HDMI, and Bluetooth (Qualcomm QCC5125 with LDAC and aptX support), and sends audio out through 6.35mm, 4.4mm, and XLR4 headphone jacks or RCA and XLR3 line outputs, so it can run as a headphone amp, a line-level preamp, or both together. The headline figure is the balanced output stage, which puts out up to 8000mW+8000mW into a 32-ohm load — more power than the vast majority of headphones, planar or otherwise, will ever call for. Running desktop mode from a weak USB source can affect stability, so it's best reserved for a laptop, PC, or powered USB hub.

More Info

Why the FiiO KA15 Stands Out

Dual CS43198 DAC Chips

Uses Cirrus Logic's CS43198 DAC, one per channel, for a fully differential dual-DAC signal path rather than a single shared chip.

0.96-Inch Full-Color Display

A true color IPS screen shows volume, sample rate, and EQ status directly on the device, rather than relying on a status light alone.

Desktop Mode for Higher Balanced Output

A physical switch raises balanced 4.4mm output up to 560mW+560mW into 32Ω when connected to a higher-current USB source, on top of its standard mobile-friendly output.

10-Band Parametric EQ

Adjustable through the FiiO Control app on Android, with EQ curves saved on-device for use without the app connected.

Gaming Console Compatible

Supports UAC1.0 mode for direct compatibility with the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, in addition to phones, tablets, and computers.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

The Desk-and-Commute Listener: wants one dongle that handles everyday phone listening and steps up to higher balanced output at a desk.

The EQ Tuner: wants on-device parametric EQ control without digging through a phone app every time.

The Console Gamer: wants a compact USB DAC/amp that works directly with a Switch or PS5 alongside phone and computer use.

How It Compares

The KA15 sits alongside FiiO's KA13 and KA17 in the same dongle DAC/amp family, but takes its own approach to the DAC chip: FiiO's own product pages list dual CS43131 chips in the KA13 and dual ES9069Q chips in the KA17, while the KA15 uses dual CS43198 chips.
