FiiO EH11 On-Ear Wireless Headphones with LDAC Support
Overview
The FiiO EH11 is a lightweight wireless on-ear headphone that pays homage to the mini on-ear headphones of the 1980s, with a transparent look and small wooden earcups. The earcups double as control knobs, so you simply rotate them to change the volume or skip tracks.
Inside, a 40mm long-throw driver with a high-damping composite diaphragm pushes the resonant frequency down to 60Hz, giving bass that extends to 17Hz. A semi-open design with ventilation ports and damping filters avoids the stuffy feel of closed headphones while keeping sound leakage low. LDAC Bluetooth streams at up to 990kbps from compatible phones, and the EH11 can stay connected to two devices at once.
At about 92g with a gentle 1.7N clamping force, it's easy to wear all day. A charge of about 2 hours gives up to 30 hours of playback, and a built-in microphone reduces background noise on calls. The FiiO Control app adds sound profiles, a gaming sound mode, and the option to turn LDAC off. A spare pair of foam earpads in a second colour comes in the box.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The EH11 is as much about style as sound, but it holds up well on both counts. To get the most from it, pair it with an Android phone that supports LDAC. LDAC is on by default, and you can switch it off in the FiiO Control app to save a little battery. Since it's semi-open, it lets a bit of the outside world in and leaks a little sound, so it's better suited to commuting and around the house than to a quiet library.
