FiiO DM13 BT Portable CD Player with aptX HD Bluetooth
Overview
The FiiO DM13 BT is a portable stereo CD player that brings your disc collection into the present, with wired headphone outputs, line outputs for speakers, and aptX HD Bluetooth to send CDs to wireless headphones or speakers. It can also rip CDs to WAV files on a USB drive, so your favourite albums can travel with you.
Two Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs and two SGM8262 headphone amps form the audio core, with the DAC chip handling 99-step volume control. The 4.4mm balanced output delivers up to 660mW per channel into 32 ohms, and the 3.5mm output up to 180mW. Separate single-ended and balanced line outputs feed active speakers or an amplifier, and an optical/coaxial digital output sends the signal to an external DAC.
A custom mechanism and laser pickup, an ESP (electronic skip protection) switch, gapless playback, favourites, and loop modes make it easy to live with. A high-contrast 1.5-inch LCD shows track and volume, and the aluminum alloy body houses a 3750mAh battery good for about 10 hours. Flip the D.MODE switch with USB power connected and it runs directly from USB without using the battery.

The DM13 BT is a lovely way to enjoy a CD collection again, at home or on the go. Use the 4.4mm balanced output if your headphones support it. FiiO rates it at well over three times the power of the 3.5mm jack into 32 ohms. On a desk, switch on D.MODE and feed the line output to powered speakers, or use the optical/coaxial output to let a dedicated DAC do the conversion. FiiO notes that no portable mechanism reads every disc perfectly, and some CD-R and CD-RW discs may skip.
