FiiO BR15 R2R Bluetooth Receiver with Balanced XLR, LDAC & aptX Lossless

Overview

The FiiO BR15 R2R is a high-resolution Bluetooth receiver and R2R DAC that adds lossless wireless streaming to the amplifier, receiver, or powered speakers you already own. Stream from your phone over aptX Lossless or LDAC, or plug in a computer, TV, or CD transport over USB, coaxial, or optical, and send the result out through RCA or balanced XLR outputs.

At its heart is FiiO's own quad-channel, fully differential 24-bit R2R DAC, built from 48 high-precision thin-film resistors per channel. You can run it in NOS mode, which keeps the original sampling rate, or in OS mode, which upsamples up to 384kHz. A Qualcomm QCC5181 chip handles Bluetooth 6.0 with an external antenna, an XU316 handles USB decoding up to 384kHz/32bit and DSD256, and the whole signal path through to the volume control is fully differential.

Two front knobs and a 1.47-inch display make it easy to use on a desk, while the included IR remote and the FiiO Control app let you run it from across the room. A global 10-band parametric EQ with AUTO EQ and presets works across every input, and optical and coaxial digital outputs let you feed an external DAC. It runs from its internal power supply or from an external 5V DC supply.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The BR15 R2R suits a listener who wants wireless convenience without settling for ordinary Bluetooth sound. If your amplifier or active speakers have balanced inputs, use the XLR output. FiiO rates it at a higher output level and SNR than the RCA. Start in OS mode at the factory 192kHz setting, then try NOS mode and decide which you prefer. FiiO itself says the difference is subjective. For the best Bluetooth quality, pair it with a phone that supports aptX Lossless or LDAC.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Wireless Retrofitter: Wants lossless Bluetooth for an amp with no wireless input.
  • The R2R Listener: Wants resistor-ladder DAC sound plus Bluetooth in one box.
  • The Balanced System Owner: Wants XLR output into balanced amps or active monitors.

How It Compares

Compared with FiiO's BR13, the BR15 R2R steps up to a fully differential R2R DAC, Bluetooth 6.0 with aptX Lossless, balanced XLR output, a remote, and USB decoding up to 384kHz/32bit and DSD256.
