FiiO AirLink Portable Bluetooth Transmitter
Overview
The FiiO AirLink is a tiny high-resolution Bluetooth transmitter that plugs straight into a USB-C port and sends audio to your wireless headphones, earbuds, or speaker. It's a simple way to give a computer, tablet, phone, or other USB-C audio source better Bluetooth than it has built in, with no drivers to install.
Inside is Qualcomm's flagship QCC5181 chip running Bluetooth 6.0. It transmits LDAC, LC3, SBC, and the full aptX family, including aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, aptX HD, aptX, and aptX Low Latency, at up to 96kHz/24-bit, and it carries Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. Three modes cover different uses: Classic for everyday listening, Low Latency to keep audio in sync with games and video, and Broadcast for sharing audio.
A multifunction button handles pairing and switches modes and codec settings, while an RGB light shows the active codec at a glance. The FiiO Control app or web interface adds a 10-band PEQ with AUTO EQ, codec selection, and firmware updates. It also supports voice calls through your Bluetooth headphones' microphone, and a second USB-C port lets you charge a phone while you listen.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The AirLink only sends audio, so the sound quality you get depends on the headphones or speaker receiving it. To get the benefit of LDAC or aptX Lossless, pair it with headphones that support the same codec; with SBC-only headphones it falls back to SBC. FiiO notes that AAC isn't currently supported, so check which codecs your headphones support. Make sure your source device sends digital audio over its USB-C port, and use the included USB-A to C adapter for older computers.
