Overview
A recording only sounds convincing if the speaker adds as little of its own character as possible, and that is the goal behind the 801 D4.
The Bowers & Wilkins 801 D4 is the flagship floor-standing loudspeaker of the 800 Series Diamond range, a 3-way vented-box design with a 25mm Diamond dome tweeter, a 150mm Continuum cone FST midrange and two 250mm Aerofoil cone bass units. The Continuum midrange sits in an all-aluminium Turbine Head that Bowers & Wilkins says is stiff and critically damped to eliminate unwanted resonances.
Frequency response is 15Hz to 28kHz (±3dB) with 90dB sensitivity and an 8Ω nominal impedance (3.0Ω minimum). Bowers & Wilkins recommends 50W to 1000W into 8Ω, so it pairs with everything from a modest power amplifier to a very powerful one.
