Overview
For a high-end system, the streamer is the first link in the chain. The Bluesound NODE ICON is what Bluesound describes as a flagship wireless music streamer, built in an aluminum chassis with a 5-inch full-colour display, to connect to a premium amplifier, powered speakers, or headphones.
A dual-mono design with two ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M DACs feeds balanced XLR and RCA outputs, with a signal-to-noise ratio of -129dB on XLR and THD+N of 0.0004%. It plays up to 24-bit/192kHz with DSD256 and MQA, and THX AAA headphone amplifier technology drives two 1/4-inch headphone jacks.
HDMI eARC with Dolby Digital, optical, analog, and USB-C inputs bring in your TV and computer, and it is Dirac Live Room Correction ready. AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, and Roon Ready are built in, with five touch presets and proximity-sensing controls on a backlit panel.

The NODE ICON is the BluOS streamer we would pair with a high-end integrated or separate amplifier, especially one with balanced XLR inputs. With HDMI eARC and Dirac Live it can also anchor a TV-and-music system. Bluesound lists two-way aptX Adaptive Bluetooth (Bluetooth 5.2), with aptX Adaptive marked as available via a future software update.
