Pro-ject Debut EVO 2 Hi-fi Turntable - Handcrafted in Europe
Overview
The Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 is the latest version of the turntable that reset expectations for what a mid-range hi-fi deck can do. Handmade in the EU, it pairs an 8.6-inch one-piece carbon fibre tonearm with the new Pick it MM EVO cartridge, a cartridge co-developed with Ortofon specifically for this player.
A 1.7kg die-cast aluminum platter, damped internally with a TPE ring, replaces the steel platter used on earlier Debut models, lowering the noise floor and leaving the door open for a future moving coil cartridge upgrade. Electronic speed switching between 33 and 45 RPM is handled by a clean DC/AC power generator that keeps the AC motor running smoothly.
Gold-plated RCA outputs are built directly into the plinth for a clean look and a solid connection, and the design leaves room to grow: pair it with an MC cartridge or Pick it PRO Balanced down the road and you can step up to Pro-Ject's True Balanced connection.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The jump from a steel platter to the EVO 2's TPE-damped aluminum platter is the detail we point clients toward first — it is a meaningful step down in resonance and it means the table is ready for a moving coil cartridge later without buying a new platter. For anyone moving up from a basic entry-level deck, that combination of a proper carbon fibre tonearm and a platter built to grow with the system is what makes the EVO 2 worth the jump.

Why the Debut EVO 2 Stands Out
One-Piece Carbon Fibre Tonearm
The 8.6" tonearm (218.5mm effective length) is stiff and lightweight, keeping the stylus seated in the groove for accurate tracking.
Pick it MM EVO Cartridge
Co-developed with Ortofon using split pole pin technology, delivering a flat frequency response closer to what you'd expect from a moving coil cartridge.
TPE-Damped Aluminum Platter
The 1.7kg die-cast platter is anti-magnetic and internally damped, cutting resonance and leaving room for a future MC cartridge upgrade.
CNC-Milled Bearing Block
A precision-machined aluminum bearing block absorbs resonance from the cartridge for smoother, quieter tracking.
Clean-Power Motor Drive
A DC/AC power generator feeds the AC motor a clean sine wave, keeping speed stable across 33 and 45 RPM.
Upgradeable to True Balanced
Gold-plated RCA outputs built into the plinth make it easy to move up to Pro-Ject's True Balanced connection with an MC cartridge or Pick it PRO Balanced.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- The Serious Upgrader — moving on from an entry-level deck and ready to hear what a properly engineered tonearm and cartridge combination sounds like.
- The Design-Conscious Listener — wants a turntable finished to a standard, in high gloss, satin, or real wood, that looks as considered as it sounds.
- The Long-Term Hobbyist — wants a foundation they can build on later with an upgraded cartridge or a True Balanced connection.
How It Compares
The Debut EVO 2 sits above Pro-Ject's T1 Evo in the lineup. Where the T1 Evo keeps things simple with a factory-set cartridge and tonearm, the EVO 2 adds a carbon fibre tonearm, the co-developed Pick it MM EVO cartridge, and a path to a True Balanced connection down the road. Buyers who want the simplest possible setup should start with the T1 Evo; those who want more control over the sound as their system grows will get more from the EVO 2.
