FiiO Wind Retro On-Ear Headphones
Overview
The FiiO Wind is a retro-styled wired on-ear headphone from FiiO's SnowSky line, weighing about 50g with a semi-open design and a 40mm dynamic driver. It plugs into a 3.5mm jack, has an in-line mic and three-button controls for music and calls, and is light enough to wear all day without noticing. It's for everyday listeners who want small, comfortable headphones with a classic portable look for walks, the desk and video calls.
Inside each ultra-thin custom housing is a 40mm driver with a Japanese polymer diaphragm, a strong custom magnet and a copper-clad aluminium wire voice coil, tuned for rich bass and lush vocals. The semi-open design gives a more natural, transparent sound than a sealed on-ear while keeping leakage low enough not to disturb the people around you, and it lets you hear your surroundings when you're outside.
A retractable stainless-steel headband and swivelling earcups adjust the fit. Two pairs of replaceable ear cushions are included, and they change the sound as well as the look: one pair brings out stronger bass, the other gives a more relaxed presentation. The in-line controls follow the CTIA standard.

Treat the two ear cushion pairs as the Wind's tone control: try the bassier pair for pop and electronic music and the more relaxed pair for vocals and acoustic tracks, and keep the spare set as a replacement down the road. Because the Wind is semi-open, it lets outside sound in, which is handy for staying aware on a walk but less suited to a loud bus or plane. For a phone without a headphone jack, a USB-C dongle DAC such as the FiiO KA11 does the job.

How It Compares
