Klipsch RP-1400SW 14" Subwoofer

Overview

A dedicated home theatre with a genuinely large room needs subwoofer output that most compact subs simply can't provide, and running out of headroom is the fastest way to lose the impact of a demanding soundtrack. The Klipsch RP-1400SW is built for exactly that scale.

The RP-1400SW is a 14" powered subwoofer built around a spun-copper Cerametallic woofer engineered for high excursion and low distortion at reference output levels. A Class D amplifier with an analog preamp design delivers 500W RMS (1000W peak) while keeping the signal path clean and true-to-source.

A front-firing driver with an Aerofoil slot port minimizes turbulence for tight, controlled bass and allows flexible placement in the room. The MDF cabinet is finished in scratch-resistant ebony vinyl with rounded corners, and it's wireless-ready with the Klipsch WA-2 kit (sold separately).

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

If a Central Ontario client is considering adding a second subwoofer to an RP-1400SW system, Klipsch's own guidance is to match it with another RP-1400SW rather than a smaller model — pairing mismatched sizes can produce uneven bass response, so matching output capability matters more than simply adding more subs.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Dedicated Theatre Owner: needs reference-level output for a large, purpose-built room.
  • The Reference Premiere System Owner: pairs naturally with Klipsch RP-Series tower and bookshelf speakers.
  • The Home Theatre Perfectionist: wants headroom to spare for the most demanding low-frequency effects.

How It Compares

The RP-1400SW sits above the RP-1200SW in Klipsch's Reference Premiere subwoofer lineup, stepping up to a 14" driver and 500W amplifier for deeper extension (16Hz vs. 16.5Hz) and more maximum output (124dB vs. 119dB). For most home theatres, the RP-1200SW is plenty; for a dedicated large room or reference-level performance, the RP-1400SW is the stronger choice — and the RP-1600SW is the next step up for those who want even more.

Klipsch RP-1400SW 14" Subwoofer FAQs

How does the Klipsch RP-1400SW's Cerametallic woofer design impact its bass performance?

The RP-1400SW features a 14-inch Cerametallic woofer that is exceptionally light and extremely rigid, providing remarkable low-frequency response with minimal cone breakup and distortion. This design ensures higher, cleaner output using less amplifier power, resulting in deep and accurate bass reproduction.

What amplifier power does the RP-1400SW utilize, and how does it affect the subwoofer's performance?

The RP-1400SW is powered by a built-in high-efficiency Class D amplifier that delivers 500 watts RMS and 1000 watts peak power. This substantial power output ensures dynamic bass performance with low distortion, allowing the subwoofer to handle demanding low-frequency effects in movies and music with ease.

How do the RP-1400SW's flexible controls support its integration into various audio setups?

The subwoofer is equipped with flexible controls, including a Low Pass Crossover and Variable Phase control, allowing users to tailor the subwoofer's performance to their specific speakers and room acoustics. These adjustments enable smooth, well-matched integration and optimal bass response within diverse audio setups.

What considerations should be made when adding a second subwoofer to an existing RP-1400SW setup?

When considering adding a second subwoofer, it's important to match the size and power of the existing unit to maintain balanced bass performance. For instance, pairing the RP-1400SW with a smaller subwoofer like the RP-1200SW might result in uneven bass response due to differences in output capabilities. Therefore, adding a second RP-1400SW is recommended for optimal performance.
