Sony UBP X700U 4K Ultra HD Blu ray Player with Dolby Vision and Dual HDMI FAQs

Does the UBP-X700U support Dolby Vision and HDR10?

Yes. The player supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 for compatible discs and displays; Dolby Vision support was provided via firmware. For best results, ensure your TV supports Dolby Vision and that the player firmware is up to date.

What are the two HDMI outputs for and how should I use them?

The dual HDMI outputs separate VIDEO and AUDIO routing — one HDMI output typically goes to the TV (video) while the other goes to an AV receiver (audio). This lets you route video directly to your TV while sending a discrete audio stream to an AVR for processing.

What file formats and network/USB playback does it support?

The UBP-X700U supports a broad set of audio and video files (FLAC, ALAC, WAV, DSD/DSF/DFF, AAC, MP3 and common video containers). It can play media from a USB drive and over a home network/server, but DRM-protected files and some encoded files may not play.

Can the UBP-X700U pass Dolby Atmos to my AV receiver and will it decode Atmos itself?

It will pass Dolby Atmos bitstreams to a compatible AV receiver (bitstream out). The player also decodes Dolby TrueHD internally (7.1ch). If you want object audio (Atmos) to be decoded you’ll generally pass the Atmos bitstream to your AVR that supports Atmos.
