Yamaha RX-V4A 5.2-Channel AV Receiver with 8K HDMI & MusicCast

Overview

The RX-V4A steps up from the RX-V385 with Wi-Fi streaming, MusicCast multi-room, and 8K-ready HDMI, while staying in a compact 5.2-channel footprint that suits most living rooms.

The RX-V4A is a 5.2-channel AV receiver rated at 80W per channel (6 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, two channels driven, FTC power rating), decoding Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD Master Audio. YPAO Volume and Adaptive DRC keep sound balanced at any listening level, and the Compressed Music Enhancer improves the detail of streamed and compressed audio files.

Video runs through 4 HDMI inputs and 1 output supporting 4K120, 8K60, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, with ALLM and VRR for gaming and eARC for a single-cable TV connection. Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and MusicCast Surround handle streaming and multi-room audio, and dual subwoofer preouts (the ".2" in 5.2) let you add reinforcement in larger rooms.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The RX-V4A's dual subwoofer outputs are a genuinely useful detail for open-concept Central Ontario living rooms — running two subs in different corners evens out bass response far more than a single sub can, especially in rooms with a kitchen or dining area open to the main space.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Streaming Household: wants Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, and MusicCast without relying on Bluetooth alone.
  • The Open-Concept Living Room: wants dual subwoofer outputs to even out bass across a larger space.
  • The Console Gamer: wants ALLM and VRR support for a smoother connection to a current-generation console.

How It Compares

The RX-V4A sits above the RX-V385 with Wi-Fi, MusicCast, and 8K-ready HDMI, but stays below the RX-V6A, which adds two more channels, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding, and YPAO Multipoint calibration for larger, more object-based surround setups.
