Yamaha RX-V385 5.1-Channel AV Receiver

Overview

Not every home theatre needs eleven channels and four HDMI outputs. The RX-V385 covers the fundamentals — clear dialogue, punchy bass, and sharp 4K picture — in a compact receiver that's easy to set up and live with.

The RX-V385 is a 5.1-channel AV receiver rated at 70W per channel (8 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, two channels driven), decoding Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD Master Audio for movie and TV soundtracks. Bluetooth handles wireless streaming from your phone, and YPAO Sound Optimization automatically balances the speakers to your room.

Video passes through 4 HDMI inputs and 1 output at 4K/60p with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG support, plus HDMI eARC (via firmware update) for a simpler soundbar-free TV connection. Front-panel USB and analog inputs round out the connections for older sources.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

For a straightforward TV and movie setup in a den or bedroom, the RX-V385 is a sensible starting point — Central Ontario customers upgrading from a soundbar find the jump to real 5.1-channel speakers a bigger difference than most receiver feature upgrades.

Who It's For

  • The First-Time Upgrader: wants to move up from a soundbar to real 5.1-channel surround sound without a steep learning curve.

How It Compares

The RX-V385 is the entry point into Yamaha's RX-V lineup. The RX-V4A adds Wi-Fi, MusicCast, and a sixth channel at 5.2, while the RX-V6A steps up further to 7.2 channels with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X for larger rooms and object-based surround formats.
