Overview
A portable speaker that's loud enough for a real backyard or beach crowd usually comes with a tradeoff: heavy to carry, and the bass either muddies up or falls apart at higher volumes.
The JBL Boombox 4 is built around two 5-inch woofers, two 0.75-inch tweeters, and three passive radiators, driven by JBL's AI Sound Boost processing, which analyzes the music in real time and adjusts the sound to add power without adding distortion, even at full volume. Two selectable Bass Boost modes — Deep Bass and Punchy Bass — let you match the low end to the space you're in, from a wide-open backyard to a tighter patio.
It runs up to 28 hours per charge, or 34 with Playtime Boost engaged, and the battery is user-replaceable when it eventually wears out. An IP68 rating means it's sealed against both dust and full submersion, and a USB-C port adds lossless audio playback when you want more than a Bluetooth connection can deliver.

How It Compares
The Boombox 4 builds on the Boombox 3 in a few concrete ways: output power increases from the Boombox 3's 180W RMS (AC mode) to 210W RMS, water resistance improves from IP67 to full IP68, and Bluetooth moves from version 5.3 to 5.4. Playtime also increases, from the Boombox 3's 24 hours to up to 28 hours (34 with Playtime Boost) on the Boombox 4.
