Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Stand Mount Speakers - (Pair)
Overview
The Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 is a two-way stand mount speaker built for larger rooms than a typical bookshelf speaker can fill, using a 6.5-inch Continuum cone bass/midrange driver paired with a decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter mounted flush in the front baffle. Unlike the 707 S3, the 706 S3 gets a carefully upgraded crossover for extra insight and detail from the same driver architecture.
The tweeter sits flush in a curved front baffle inspired by the 800 Series Diamond, with individual driver pods that reduce cabinet coloration for a cleaner, more focused sound. The 6.5-inch Continuum cone driver avoids the abrupt behaviour changes of conventional cone materials, giving the 706 S3 enough scale and extension to work as a stereo pair in larger spaces rather than just a compact bookshelf role.
The 706 S3 covers a frequency range of 45Hz to 33kHz, pairs with amplifiers from 30W to 120W into 8 ohms, and comes in Gloss Black, Satin White, and Mocha finishes. Stands aren't included, so budget for a rigid, mass-loaded stand separately to get the most out of the cabinet's bass control.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The 706 S3's upgraded crossover is the detail that separates it from the 707 S3 below it in the lineup — same basic driver architecture, but B&W has specifically credited the 706 S3's crossover work for its extra insight and detail. If a client wants more room-filling scale than a compact bookshelf speaker but isn't ready to step up to the 705 S3's Tweeter-on-Top design, this is the middle step. Foam port plugs for close-to-wall placement are sold separately rather than included in the box, so flag that if a client asks about wall placement up front.

Why the 706 S3 Stands Out
Decoupled Carbon Dome Tweeter
Purpose-built for the 700 Series, the Carbon Dome tweeter raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz, giving pinpoint imaging and detail well beyond the audible range.
Upgraded Crossover
The 706 S3 uses a carefully upgraded crossover for extra insight and detail compared to the 707 S3, from the same basic driver architecture.
6.5-Inch Continuum Cone Driver
The Continuum cone bass/midrange driver avoids the abrupt behaviour changes of conventional cone materials, keeping vocals and instruments open and uncoloured.
Curved Baffle with Individual Driver Pods
Inspired by the 800 Series Diamond, the curved front baffle and individual driver pods reduce cabinet coloration for a cleaner, more focused sound.
Flowport Bass Reflex System
The Flowport venting reduces port noise and turbulence compared to a conventional straight port, for cleaner bass output at higher volumes.
Bi-Wire/Bi-Amp Ready Terminals
Rear binding posts support bi-wiring or bi-amping for owners who want to run separate cable runs or amplification to the highs and lows.
Three Cabinet Finishes
Available in Gloss Black, Satin White, or Mocha, with matching grille colours for each finish.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- Larger rooms than a compact bookshelf speaker can fill: listeners who want stand mount scale and extension without stepping up to a floorstanding tower.
- Home theatre front or surround channels: builds needing a full-bodied stand mount pair that can hold its own next to larger 700 Series floorstanders.
- 707 S3 shoppers who want more insight and detail: buyers comparing against the 707 S3 who are willing to pay for the 706 S3's upgraded crossover.
How It Compares
Next to the 707 S3, B&W's smaller 700 Series bookshelf speaker, the 706 S3 uses the same Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter but pairs it with a larger 6.5-inch Continuum bass/midrange driver instead of the 707 S3's 5-inch driver, plus the upgraded crossover B&W specifically credits for extra insight and detail. Step up to the 705 S3 instead for the Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing on the same size cabinet.
