Bowers & Wilkins 704 S3 Floor Standing Speakers - (Pair)
Overview
The Bowers & Wilkins 704 S3 is the slimmest floor-standing speaker Bowers & Wilkins makes, built for rooms where a full-size tower doesn't fit but you still want three-way performance. It's a three-way tower speaker with a Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter mounted flush in the front baffle, a 5-inch Continuum FST midrange, and two 5-inch Aerofoil Profile bass drivers in a cabinet just 6.5 inches wide.
Unlike the 702 S3 and 703 S3, the 704 S3's tweeter sits flush in the cabinet rather than in a separate Tweeter-on-Top housing, keeping the profile slim. The midrange driver still gets B&W's Continuum cone with Biomimetic Suspension and is acoustically decoupled from the bass drivers, so vocals and instruments stay clear of interference from the low end even in this narrower enclosure.
The 704 S3 covers a frequency range of 43Hz to 33kHz, pairs with amplifiers from 30W to 150W into 8 ohms, and comes in Gloss Black, Satin White, and Mocha finishes with a matching stabilization plinth for floor mounting. It's built for rooms where floor space is tight but a bookshelf speaker on stands isn't the look you want.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The 704 S3 is the speaker to spec when a client wants floorstanding presence without giving up much room width — at 6.5 inches wide, it's the narrowest tower in the 700 Series. The trade-off versus the 702 S3 and 703 S3 is the flush-mounted tweeter instead of the Tweeter-on-Top housing and a lower frequency range starting at 43Hz instead of 28-30Hz, so it's the right call for tight floor plans rather than the largest rooms in the house.

Why the 704 S3 Stands Out
Ultra-Slim Cabinet
At 6.5 inches wide, the 704 S3 is the narrowest floor-standing speaker Bowers & Wilkins makes, fitting into rooms where a full-size tower isn't practical.
Decoupled Carbon Dome Tweeter
Purpose-built for the 700 Series, the Carbon Dome tweeter raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz, giving pinpoint imaging and detail well beyond the audible range.
Continuum Cone FST Midrange
The midrange driver combines B&W's Continuum cone with Biomimetic Suspension and is decoupled from the bass drivers, avoiding the abrupt behavioural shifts that can affect a conventional driver's transparency.
Dual Aerofoil Profile Bass Drivers
Developed with computer modelling, the Aerofoil cone varies in thickness to provide stiffness and rigidity exactly where it's needed, giving the pair of drivers deep and dynamic low end from a narrow cabinet.
Flowport Bass Reflex System
The Flowport venting reduces port noise and turbulence compared to a conventional straight port, for cleaner bass output at higher volumes.
Bi-Wire/Bi-Amp Ready Terminals
Rear binding posts support bi-wiring or bi-amping for owners who want to run separate cable runs or amplification to the highs and lows.
Structural Stabilization Plinth
Each tower ships with a matching plinth for floor mounting, adding a stable footprint at the base of the narrow cabinet.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- Tight floor plans: rooms where a full-width 702 S3 or 703 S3 cabinet doesn't fit but a floor-standing speaker is still the goal.
- Home theatre front channels in narrower rooms: builds needing left/right towers that don't dominate the visual space.
- Two-channel listening in mid-sized rooms: audiophiles who want 700 Series performance without committing to the largest cabinet in the line.
How It Compares
Step up to the Bowers & Wilkins 703 S3 for the Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing and larger 6.5-inch Aerofoil bass drivers in a wider cabinet, extending bass reach down to 30Hz. The 704 S3 trades that width and low-end extension for the narrowest floorstanding footprint Bowers & Wilkins offers.
