Bowers & Wilkins 705 S3 Standmount Speakers - (Pair)
Overview
A stand mount speaker rarely gets to sound like a company's flagship model, but the Bowers & Wilkins 705 S3 borrows enough from the 800 Series Diamond line to close that gap in a genuinely compact footprint.
Its Carbon Dome tweeter sits in a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top enclosure milled from a single block of aluminum, decoupled from the cabinet so high frequencies don't pick up resonance from the rest of the speaker. That tweeter's breakup threshold reaches 47kHz, well above what most listeners can hear, for cleaner imaging and detail. Below it, a 6.5-inch Continuum cone handles bass and midrange from a curved cabinet with a Flowport reflex vent, avoiding the abrupt breakup behaviour that shows up in conventional cone materials.
Frequency response runs 50Hz to 28kHz (±3dB), with distortion under 1% from 100Hz to 22kHz, and the 2-way design pairs well with 30W to 120W amplifiers into its 8-ohm load. Rear binding posts support bi-wiring or bi-amping, and the cabinet ships in Gloss Black, Satin White, or Mocha.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The 705 S3 doesn't come with stands, so budget for a rigid, mass-loaded stand (B&W's own FS-700 S3 or a comparable option) if you want the tweeter at the right height and the cabinet properly isolated from the floor — stand quality has a real effect on a speaker built around this much acoustic isolation. It's also bi-wire/bi-amp capable out of the box, so if you're already running separate amplification for highs and lows, the rear terminals are ready for it without an adapter.

Why the Bowers & Wilkins 705 S3 Stands Out
Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top
The Carbon Dome tweeter sits in its own decoupled housing, milled from a single block of aluminum, isolating high frequencies from cabinet vibration.
47kHz Tweeter Breakup Threshold
The Carbon Dome tweeter pushes its breakup point to 47kHz, well beyond the audible range, for cleaner detail and imaging at the top end.
Continuum Cone Bass/Midrange
The 6.5-inch Continuum cone avoids the abrupt behaviour changes of conventional cone materials, keeping voices and instruments transparent through the midrange.
Curved Baffle with Flowport
A subtly curved front baffle and a Flowport reflex vent reduce cabinet diffraction and port noise for a cleaner low end.
Bi-Wire/Bi-Amp Ready
Independent rear binding post pairs support bi-wiring or bi-amping for listeners running separate amplification.
Three Cabinet Finishes
Available in Gloss Black, Satin White, or Mocha, with matching grille colours for each finish.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- Small to Medium Listening Rooms: A compact stand mount cabinet delivers 800 Series Diamond-derived detail without the floor space a tower speaker needs.
- Bi-Amp and Bi-Wire Systems: Independent rear terminal pairs are ready for separate amplification without an adapter.
- Multi-Channel System Builders: Voice-matched with other 700 Series models, making it a natural surround or height-channel pairing alongside larger floorstanding speakers in the same line.
How It Compares
Compared to the 703 S3 floorstanding speaker, the 705 S3 trades a 3-way design with dual 6.5-inch Aerofoil bass drivers for a simpler 2-way, single-driver layout in a stand mount cabinet — less outright bass output and headroom, but a smaller footprint for rooms that don't need floorstanding scale. Both share the same Carbon Dome tweeter and Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top design, so the top-end character carries across the lineup regardless of which cabinet size you choose.
