Anthem STR Power Amplifier
Overview
The Anthem STR Power Amplifier is a flagship two-channel amplifier designed, engineered, and manufactured in Canada, delivering 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 600 watts into 4 ohms, and 800 watts into 2 ohms with both channels driven. A true dual-mono design, two independently wound toroidal transformers, one per channel, keeps each channel's power supply completely isolated.
Sixteen bipolar output devices per channel and a proprietary cascoded complementary feedback input stage keep distortion low and bandwidth wide, even when driving difficult, low-impedance speaker loads. A 7-inch front-panel graphic display shows power output, status, and navigation at a glance.
Anthem's proprietary Advanced Load Monitoring (ALM) technology continuously tracks temperature, current, and voltage, stepping in only under extreme conditions so the amplifier can deliver its full dynamic range without interference. A sequence-controlled soft turn-on manages in-rush current so your circuit breakers stay untripped at startup.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
For listeners running demanding, low-impedance tower speakers, the STR Power Amplifier's dual-mono construction and sixteen-device output stage mean it won't run out of current when the music gets complex. Because the amplifier sections connect directly to the power supply capacitor bank rather than through rail fuses, output impedance stays low and full power is available the instant a track calls for it, the kind of headroom that shows up as tighter bass and more effortless dynamics on demanding recordings.

Why the Anthem STR Power Amplifier Stands Out
True Dual-Mono Architecture
Two independently wound toroidal transformers give each channel its own isolated power supply for maximum channel separation.
Sixteen Bipolar Output Devices Per Channel
Provides effortless peak current delivery and stable performance into the most demanding 2-ohm loads.
Cascoded Complementary Feedback Input Stage
Eight low-noise bipolar input devices in a proprietary configuration reduce distortion and extend bandwidth.
Advanced Load Monitoring (ALM)
Continuously monitors temperature, current, and voltage, engaging only under extreme conditions to protect the amplifier without limiting normal playback.
Direct-Connected Output Stage
No rail fuses sit between the amplifier sections and the power supply capacitor bank, keeping output impedance low and power instantly available.
Flexible Power Management
Combines 12-volt trigger control with automatic audio signal sensing, so the amplifier can turn on and off with your system's activity.
7-Inch Graphic Display
Shows power output, status, and navigation on the front panel.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- Audiophiles running demanding, low-impedance tower speakers that need serious current and damping control.
- Two-channel listeners building a dedicated stereo system around separate preamp and power amp components.
- Home theater owners who want reference-grade amplification on the front left and right channels of a premium surround system.
How It Compares
The STR Power Amplifier is designed to pair with the Anthem STR Preamplifier, forming a two-chassis separates system with independent power supplies for preamp and amplification duties. For listeners who'd rather have that same engineering in one chassis, the Anthem STR Integrated Amplifier combines a preamplifier, DAC, and power amp section together, trading some of the separates' channel separation and headroom for a simpler, single-box setup.
