Sony STR-AN1000 7.2 Channel 8K A/V Receiver
Overview
The Sony STR-AN1000 is a 7.2-channel A/V receiver built around 8K passthrough, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X, giving you a home theatre hub that can keep pace with next-generation consoles and current Atmos soundtracks alike.
Sony's D.C.A.C. IX automatic calibration measures your room with the included microphone and adjusts levels, distance, and EQ per speaker, so you get balanced sound without manually tuning each channel yourself.
Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, and AirPlay 2 let you stream directly to the receiver, while six HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs give you plenty of room to connect consoles, streaming boxes, and multiple displays.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
We recommend the STR-AN1000 for anyone building a serious home theatre around current and next-gen 4K/8K sources, since its HDMI 2.1 features like 4K/120Hz and full HDR passthrough (including Dolby Vision) mean it won't bottleneck a modern gaming or movie setup the way older receivers can.

Why the Sony STR-AN1000 Stands Out
7.2-Channel Amplification
Seven amplified channels plus dual subwoofer pre-outs give you the flexibility to build a full surround or height-channel setup without running out of connections.
D.C.A.C. IX Automatic Calibration
The included calibration microphone measures speaker distance, level, and room acoustics automatically, so your system sounds balanced from the first setup rather than requiring manual trial and error.
8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz HDMI Passthrough
Six HDMI inputs support 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz, along with VRR and ALLM, so current and next-generation consoles and media players get full-resolution, low-latency passthrough.
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Decoding
Full decoding for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio means the STR-AN1000 handles the object-based surround formats used on modern Blu-rays and streaming services.
Built-In Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Multi-Room Streaming
Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, and Bluetooth give you multiple ways to stream music directly to the receiver without extra hardware.
HDR Passthrough with Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced
Support for HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, and IMAX Enhanced content ensures your picture quality matches your source material without the receiver being the weak link.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- The next-gen gamer: Someone who wants 4K/120Hz and 8K passthrough with VRR and ALLM for the latest consoles and gaming PCs.
- The home theatre builder: Someone assembling a 7.2-channel Dolby Atmos or DTS:X system and wants automatic room calibration to simplify setup.
- The multi-room streamer: Someone who wants built-in Chromecast, Spotify Connect, and AirPlay 2 without adding separate streaming hardware.
How It Compares
The STR-AN1000 sits as Sony's step-up receiver in the STR lineup, offering more amplified channels and full 8K/4K120 HDMI passthrough compared to Sony's entry-level STR-DH series receivers. Choose the STR-AN1000 when you need the extra channels and next-gen video passthrough for a larger, more future-proofed home theatre.
