Sonos Ray Compact Soundbar

Overview

The Sonos Ray is built for a tight spot: tucked into a TV stand shelf, under a small TV, or anywhere a bigger soundbar won't fit. Every driver faces forward, so it still sounds full and balanced even enclosed on three sides.

Four Class-D amplifiers drive two tweeters and two midwoofers for crisp dialogue and solid bass, and a proprietary anti-distortion port design keeps the low end controlled rather than boomy at higher volumes.

Setup takes two cables — power and the included optical cable to your TV — and your existing TV remote controls the volume right away thanks to built-in IR sync.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The Ray is the right call when space, not budget, is the constraint — a bedroom, dorm, RV, or any TV sitting in a cabinet. It has no microphone of its own, so if you want hands-free voice control, you'll need a separate mic-equipped Sonos speaker or a compatible smart speaker on the same system.

Why the Sonos Ray Stands Out

Four-Driver Balanced Sound

Four Class-D digital amplifiers power two tweeters and two midwoofers, tuned specifically to the Ray's compact acoustic architecture.

Forward-Facing Acoustic Design

Every driver fires forward instead of up or to the sides, so sound quality holds up even when the Ray is tucked inside a TV stand.

Two-Cable Setup

Connect power and the included optical cable to your TV, open the Sonos app, and you're listening in minutes — no HDMI required.

TV Remote Sync

An infrared receiver syncs with your existing TV remote, so there's no extra remote to keep track of.

Trueplay Room Tuning

Trueplay uses the microphone in a supported iOS device to measure your room's acoustics and automatically fine-tune the sound to the space.

Whole-Home Wi-Fi Streaming

Connect over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to stream from Spotify, Apple Music, and more through the Sonos app, or group the Ray with other Sonos speakers around the house.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • Small-room TV setups: bedrooms, dorms, RVs, or any space where a larger soundbar won't fit.
  • Cabinet or TV-stand installs: the forward-facing design keeps sound clear even partially enclosed.
  • Budget-conscious upgraders: real dialogue clarity and bass improvement over built-in TV speakers at Sonos's lowest soundbar price.

How It Compares

Need HDMI and Dolby Atmos instead of optical-only stereo? The Sonos Beam Gen 2 steps up to HDMI eARC and spatial audio processing for a noticeably bigger step up from TV speakers. Want a dedicated hi-fi speaker instead of a soundbar? The Sonos Five is built for music rather than TV audio.
