Sonos Five High-Fidelity Wifi Streaming Speaker
Overview
The Sonos Five is built for listeners who want their music to fill the room, not just come out of a speaker. Six Class-D amplifiers drive three tweeters and three high-excursion midwoofers in a sealed cabinet, so bass stays tight and vocals stay forward even at higher volumes.
Stand it upright for focused mono sound in a smaller space, or lay it on its side and the Five automatically switches to full left-right stereo — no settings to dig through.
It streams over Wi-Fi from Spotify, Apple Music, and the rest of your usual services through the Sonos app, and the 3.5 mm line-in means a turntable or CD player can plug in directly, even though the speaker itself has no Bluetooth.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
A single Five works well as a serious living-room or office speaker on its own, but a stereo pair is where this speaker really shows off — true left-right separation with genuine depth. If you already run Sonos elsewhere in the house, the Five groups into that system instantly for whole-home listening.

Why the Sonos Five Stands Out
Six-Driver Hi-Fi Architecture
Six Class-D digital amplifiers power three tweeters (one center, two angled) and three high-excursion midwoofers, tuned specifically to the speaker's sealed enclosure.
Sealed Acoustic Design
The fully sealed cabinet eliminates reverb, echo, and distortion, keeping bass controlled instead of boomy.
Automatic Orientation Sensing
Place it horizontally for stereo separation or vertically for mono, and the Five's processing and touch controls adjust automatically.
Trueplay Room Tuning
Trueplay uses the microphone in a supported iOS device to measure your room and fine-tune the EQ to the space.
Wired Line-In
A 3.5 mm input lets you connect a turntable, CD player, or other analog source directly, then send that audio to other Sonos speakers in the house.
Dual-Band Wi-Fi Streaming
Connects over 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz for stable, high-resolution streaming without Bluetooth dropouts or phone-call interruptions.
Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- Serious music listeners: want real stereo separation and deep bass from a single speaker or a paired set.
- Turntable and CD owners: need a wired line-in to stream a non-digital source through a Sonos system.
- Existing Sonos households: adding a dedicated hi-fi speaker to an already-connected home.
How It Compares
Want spatial, Dolby Atmos-style sound instead of stereo hi-fi? The Sonos Era 300 is built around spatial audio rather than pure stereo output. Looking for something smaller and more affordable for a bedroom or office? The Sonos Era 100 covers compact rooms at a lower price point.
