JBL Charge 6 Portable Bluetooth Speaker
Overview
The JBL Charge 6 is a mid-size portable Bluetooth speaker with JBL Original Pro Sound, rich bass and a built-in power bank, made to go wherever you do. It's waterproof, dustproof and drop-proof, plays for up to 28 hours, and can top up your phone along the way. It's for anyone who wants one speaker for the backyard, the beach, the trailer and the kitchen.
Inside, a 53 x 93 mm woofer and a 20 mm tweeter are powered by 30 W and 15 W of amplification, and JBL's AI Sound Boost analyses the music in real time for maximum performance with less distortion. Bluetooth 5.4 handles the wireless connection, and Auracast lets you stereo pair two Charge 6 speakers or link multiple Auracast-enabled JBL speakers.
Battery life is up to 24 hours, plus up to 4 more with Playtime Boost, and fast charge gives up to 150 minutes of playtime from 10 minutes on the charger. The IP68 rating covers water and dust, and JBL designed it to survive a 1-metre drop onto concrete. A removable handle strap makes it easy to carry, and the USB-C port also supports lossless playback from a laptop or other device once enabled by a JBL Portable app software update.
Simcoe Audio Video Insight
The Charge 6 charges over USB-C, but JBL doesn't include a USB cable in the box, so have one ready, ideally with a charger that supports the 12 to 20 V input for the full 3-hour charge time. The power bank will keep a phone going at the trailer or on the dock, though JBL notes it doesn't support laptop charging. Lossless USB-C playback is added through a JBL Portable app update, so update the speaker when you first set it up.

Buyer's Guide
Who It's For
- The Outdoor Regular: Wants a tough speaker for the beach or trailer.
- The All-Day Listener: Wants long playtime and a phone power bank.
- The Desk Listener: Wants lossless USB-C playback from a laptop.
How It Compares
Compared with the JBL Flip 7, which delivers 35 W and up to 14 hours of playtime in a smaller, lighter body, the Charge 6 steps up to 45 W, up to 28 hours with Playtime Boost and a built-in power bank. Choose the Flip 7 to travel light, and the Charge 6 for more sound and runtime.
