FiiO D03K Optical Coaxial Digital-to-Analog Converter

Overview

The FiiO D03K is a compact digital-to-analog converter that turns the optical or coaxial digital output of a TV, set-top box, disc player, or computer into an analog signal for a stereo amplifier, powered speakers, or car audio system. It's the simple fix when your TV only has an optical output and your speakers or receiver only take RCA or 3.5mm.

An MS8416T digital receiver accepts sampling rates from 32kHz to 192kHz, and an MS4344 DAC converts audio up to 192kHz/24bit. An SG358 dual-channel op-amp feeds the RCA and 3.5mm outputs, and a switch on the unit selects optical or coaxial input. If a non-PCM signal such as Dolby or DTS arrives, the D03K mutes its output to avoid harsh noise.

The unibody aluminum housing is small and solid, with a dust-proof optical input and a gold-plated coaxial input. A red light shows power, and a blue LOCKED light confirms a valid input signal. It runs on USB power from a computer or a 5V adapter.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The D03K is a line-level converter, not a headphone amp, so connect it to something with its own volume control, like a stereo amplifier or powered speakers. A common setup issue is a TV sending surround sound. If the blue LOCKED light stays off, set your TV's digital audio output to PCM or Stereo and the sound should come through.

Why the FiiO D03K Stands Out

Optical and Coaxial Inputs

Choose either input with a switch on the unit.

Up to 192kHz/24bit

MS8416T receiver and MS4344 DAC.

RCA and 3.5mm Outputs

Feed an amplifier, powered speakers, or a wireless adapter.

Auto-Mute on Non-PCM

Silences unsupported signals instead of making harsh noise.

Status Lights

Red for power, blue LOCKED for a valid input signal.

Small Aluminum Housing

About 50g, with dust-proof optical and gold-plated coaxial inputs.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The TV Owner: Wants TV sound through an older stereo or powered speakers.
  • The Computer User: Wants analog output from a coaxial or optical source.
  • The Car Audio Installer: Needs to bring a digital source into an analog system.

How It Compares

Unlike FiiO's desktop DAC/headphone amps, the D03K has no headphone output or volume control. It's a dedicated converter for feeding an existing amplifier or powered speakers.

FiiO D03K Optical Coaxial Digital-to-Analog Converter FAQs

Does the FiiO D03K have a headphone jack?

No. Its RCA and 3.5mm outputs are line-level, meant for an amplifier, powered speakers, or a wireless adapter rather than headphones.

Why is there no sound from my TV?

The D03K only decodes PCM. If the blue LOCKED light is off, set your TV's digital audio output to PCM or Stereo instead of Dolby, DTS, or Auto.

How is the D03K powered?

Over USB, from a computer's USB port or a 5V USB power adapter rated at 500mA or more.

What sample rates does it support?

From 32kHz up to 192kHz, with conversion up to 192kHz/24bit.
