FiiO BTR13 Portable Bluetooth Headphone Amplifier

Overview

The FiiO BTR13 is a portable Bluetooth headphone amplifier and USB DAC that gives your wired earphones and headphones better sound from a phone, laptop, or game console. Use it wirelessly over Bluetooth, plug it into a computer as a sound card, or connect it to your phone as a USB dongle, and switch between modes with one slide of a switch.

Inside, two Cirrus Logic CS43131 DACs each handle one channel, with a Qualcomm QCC5125 chip covering Bluetooth 5.1 with LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, aptX LL, AAC, and SBC. Both a 3.5mm and a 4.4mm balanced output are built in, and the balanced jack delivers up to 220mW per channel into 32 ohms, enough for more demanding IEMs and many portable headphones.

A 0.96-inch colour display shows codec, volume, battery, sample rate, and EQ, and the FiiO Control app adds a global parametric EQ. A built-in microphone and support for in-line remote controls handle calls, and FiiO's car mode turns it on and off with your car's USB power. Battery life is about 8 hours over Bluetooth, or about 10 hours as a phone dongle.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The BTR13 is a good step up when your earphones come with, or can take, a 4.4mm balanced cable. That's where it delivers far more power than the 3.5mm jack. It's also handy as one device for everything: Bluetooth on the go, a USB sound card for a laptop or PS5 at your desk, and a dongle for a phone without a headphone jack. Keep in mind the wired USB mode tops out at 96kHz/16bit, so it's built for convenience and power more than high-resolution file playback.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Balanced Cable Owner: Wants to use a 4.4mm cable with IEMs or headphones.
  • The Phone and Laptop User: Wants one device for Bluetooth and wired USB listening.
  • The Gamer: Wants a plug-and-play USB sound card for a PS5 or Switch.

How It Compares

Compared with FiiO's BTR11, the BTR13 adds a 4.4mm balanced output, much more power, a colour display, aptX codecs, and USB DAC modes. It's still small and light enough to carry all day.
