Bryston 7B Cubed Mono Amplifier
Overview
The Bryston 7B Cubed (7B³) is a single-channel monoblock power amplifier rated at 600 watts into 8 ohms and up to 900 watts into 4 ohms. Bryston says that while it doesn't look much different, it's a big step up from the 4B³, with twice the power available to drive all but the most brutal loads to lifelike levels.
Its power supply is built around a specially wound transformer that Bryston says is substantially more efficient than normal. Like every Cubed Series amplifier, it uses the patented Salomie circuit, and Bryston rates distortion under 0.005% (THD+N, 20Hz to 20kHz at 600W into 8 ohms). Bryston adds that even at whisper-quiet levels, it reveals detail and nuance you may not have heard before.
Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs, switchable 23dB or 29dB gain, dual binding-post pairs, and a DC trigger cover the practical side. It's fully convection cooled with no fans, draws under 500mW in standby, and uses a microprocessor-controlled SoftStart sequence that won't trip circuit breakers.

The 7B³ is sold individually, so a stereo system needs a pair. At 5.8 inches tall and 24 kg each, two 7B³ monoblocks are easier to place than one 41 kg 14B³, and each speaker gets its own amplifier and power supply. Leave room for convection cooling, and use the trigger so both amps switch on with your preamp.
