Bryston 2.5B Cubed Stereo Amplifier

Overview

The Bryston 2.5B Cubed (2.5B³) is a dual-mono, two-channel power amplifier rated at 135 watts per channel into 8 ohms. A rear-panel mode switch also lets you bridge it into a single 270-watt channel into 8 ohms, so one chassis can serve as a stereo amp now or a monoblock later.

Bryston says the patented Salomie circuit is found in all of its Cubed Series amplifiers, and the 2.5B³ manual rates distortion at 0.005% or less (THD+N, 20Hz to 20kHz at 135W into 8 ohms) with bandwidth from below 1Hz to beyond 100kHz. Switchable 23dB or 29dB gain helps match the amp to your preamp or DAC.

Inputs include balanced (XLR or TRS) and single-ended RCA, plus an AC/DC trigger input with passthrough. Bryston deliberately leaves fans out of its amplifiers and uses passive heat sinks instead, and SoftStart circuitry manages inrush current at power-up. At 4.48 inches tall and 12.7 kg, it's the compact option among the Cubed amps we carry.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The 2.5B³ suits smaller rooms, efficient speakers, or a second zone where a full-size Bryston would be more than you need. Give it room to breathe: Bryston uses passive heat sinks rather than fans, and its manual notes that stacked amps may need extra cooling. If you later move to a pair, the bridged mode turns each 2.5B³ into a 270W mono amplifier.

Why the Bryston 2.5B Cubed Stands Out

135W Per Channel

Rated at 135 watts per channel into 8 ohms.

Bridgeable to 270W Mono

A rear-panel mode switch bridges both channels into one 270W channel into 8 ohms.

Dual-Mono Design

Two channels built as a dual-mono power amplifier.

Salomie Input Circuit

The patented circuit Bryston uses across its Cubed Series amplifiers.

Fanless Passive Cooling

Bryston omits fans and uses passive heat sinks to keep noise down.

Switchable Gain and Trigger

23dB or 29dB gain, plus an AC/DC trigger input with passthrough.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Smaller-Room Listener: Wants Bryston amplification without a full-size chassis.
  • The Step-by-Step System Builder: Wants a stereo amp now with the option to bridge a pair to mono later.
  • The Multi-Zone Builder: Wants a compact amp with trigger control for a second room.

How It Compares

The 2.5B³ is the compact Cubed amplifier at 135W per channel. The 3B³ steps up to 200W per channel into 8 ohms (300W into 4 ohms), and the 4B³ delivers 300W per channel into 8 ohms (500W into 4 ohms) for larger rooms and more demanding speakers.
