Overview
The Bowers & Wilkins HTM72 S3 is the more compact centre channel speaker in the 700 Series, which B&W calls a premium choice for smaller set-ups. It pairs a decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter with twin 5-inch Continuum cone bass/midrange drivers, and B&W names it the perfect partner for a home theatre built around the 704 S3, 706 S3, or 707 S3.
Dialogue carries most of what you watch, and B&W says the HTM72 S3 brings superior dialogue clarity to the home theatre experience. Its Carbon Dome tweeter is purpose-built for the 700 Series, and B&W says it raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz for pinpoint imaging and detail. The Continuum cones use a composite construction that B&W says avoids the abrupt transitions that can impair a conventional driver, for an open, neutral sound.
It's a 2-way vented-box design using B&W's Flowport, with terminals that support bi-wiring or bi-amplification. At 477 mm wide and 9.66 kg, it's narrower and lighter than the 628 mm, 17.45 kg HTM71 S3.

When the cabinet or shelf under your TV can't take a 628 mm wide centre, the HTM72 S3 keeps you in the 700 Series at 477 mm wide and 165 mm tall, with no Tweeter-on-Top housing to add height. B&W's manual recommends placing it directly below or above the screen, as close to ear height as possible, or behind the centre of an acoustically transparent projection screen. On a shelf or in an AV rack, fit the four self-adhesive rubber feet for a degree of vibration isolation.

The HTM72 S3 is the 2-way centre in the 700 Series. The HTM71 S3, which B&W calls its flagship centre, moves to a 3-way design with Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top, a dedicated Continuum FST midrange, and two Aerofoil Profile bass cones, in a wider 628 mm cabinet. The HTM71 S3 Signature adds revised bass motor systems, improved capacitors, revised terminals, and a more open tweeter grille mesh.
