Bowers & Wilkins DB2D Subwoofer - (Each)

Overview

The Bowers & Wilkins DB2D is a DB Series subwoofer that uses the same 10-inch drivers found in B&W's flagship 800 D4 speakers, paired with a 1000W Class D Hypex amplifier. B&W says it uses intelligent DSP to optimise bass in any room.

Its two 250 mm Aerofoil cones sit back to back in a balanced configuration, which B&W says cancels out cabinet resonances so all that power goes into room-shaking bass, not wasted vibration. The variable-thickness Aerofoil cone delivers solid, dramatic bass through its rigidity and lightness, and B&W describes the DB2D's fast, solid bass as a complement to the 800 Series Diamond speakers.

An all-new digital preamplifier with Dynamic EQ and Room EQ keeps the sound precise for music and movies, and set-up runs through the B&W subwoofer app over Bluetooth LE, using your phone's microphone for Room EQ. Inputs include 2 XLR, 2 RCA, two 12V triggers, and RS-232. B&W rates it at 10Hz to 350Hz (-3dB).

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

B&W's line for the DB2D is "save space, not bass": it brings 800 D4 drivers to a smaller cabinet than the DB1D, and its room optimisation makes it easier to position. The RS-232 port and 12V triggers give a control system a way to manage it in a fully integrated theatre, which is the kind of system we design and install.

Why the Bowers & Wilkins DB2D Stands Out

1000W Class D Hypex Amplifier

Digital amplification that B&W says is cool-running and energy efficient.

Dual 10-Inch Aerofoil Cones

The same 10-inch drivers found in the 800 D4, in a balanced, back-to-back layout.

Resonance-Cancelling Design

Opposed drivers cancel out cabinet resonances so power goes into bass, not vibration.

Dynamic EQ and Room EQ

An all-new digital preamplifier; Room EQ uses your phone's microphone through the app.

App Set-Up over Bluetooth LE

Set up and control the subwoofer from the B&W app for iOS and Android.

XLR, RCA, 12V Trigger, and RS-232

Two XLR, two RCA, two 12V triggers, and a 9-pin RS-232 port.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The 800 Series Diamond Owner: Wants a subwoofer B&W says complements its flagship speakers.
  • The Space-Conscious Theatre: Wants DB Series performance in a smaller cabinet than the DB1D.
  • The Integrated Home: Wants a subwoofer that a control system can manage over RS-232.

How It Compares

The DB2D sits between the DB1D, with two 12-inch drivers and 2000W, and the DB3D, with two 8-inch drivers. The DB2D and DB3D both use 1000W amplifiers, and all three share the 10Hz to 350Hz response.
