Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 10" Subwoofer - (Each)

Overview

The Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 is a compact ASW Series subwoofer with a 10-inch paper/aramid fibre long-throw driver and a 200W ICEpower amplifier in a sealed, closed-box cabinet. B&W says the 250 mm driver moves the large volumes of air needed for high-quality low-frequency output, while its amplifier keeps the compact unit running cool.

B&W rates it from 27Hz (±3dB, EQ at A), and a three-position bass extension switch sets the roll-off at -6dB at 20Hz, 25Hz, or 30Hz. B&W says the sealed enclosure keeps the bass good and tight, and an active 4th-order low-pass filter with variable cut-off, plus a bypass for an AV receiver's bass management, helps it blend with your main speakers.

It connects through RCA line inputs or speaker-level binding posts, each with its own volume control, and adds a 12V trigger input and a phase switch. Auto sense wakes it from a 0.5W standby when a signal arrives.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

B&W describes the ASW610 as compact enough to fit almost anywhere, and suggests using two for more bass control in a hi-fi or home theatre system. Start with B&W's suggested settings: volume at nine o'clock, EQ at position A, and phase at 0 degrees. With an AV receiver, use the line input and switch the low-pass filter out so the receiver handles the crossover.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Home Theatre Owner: Wants deeper bass for movies in a living room or media room.
  • The Stereo System Owner: Wants to add low end to a hi-fi system.
  • The Dual-Sub Builder: Wants two compact subwoofers for more bass control.

How It Compares

The ASW610 shares its 200W amplifier and controls with the ASW608, but steps up from an 8-inch to a 10-inch driver and from 32Hz to 27Hz response. The ASW610XP keeps the 10-inch driver and adds a 500W amplifier.
