Overview
The Bowers & Wilkins AM-1 is an all-weather architectural monitor for patios, gardens, and poolsides, and B&W notes it also suits public indoor spaces. It is resistant to dust, moisture, and UV, and B&W calls it its most durable speaker ever.
Each AM-1 passes weather tests including UV exposure and an accelerated salt-spray chamber. The cabinet is entirely sealed with a rust-proof aluminium grille, and instead of a port it uses a rear-mounted auxiliary bass radiator to keep the seal while giving solid bass. Drivers are a Nautilus tube-loaded 25 mm aluminium dome tweeter and a 130 mm glassfibre bass/midrange in an inverted array for dispersion when mounted high on a wall.
A one-piece aluminium mounting system with 220-degree rotation lets you mount the AM-1 vertically or horizontally. B&W rates it at 51Hz to 22kHz on axis (wall mounted), with 86dB sensitivity and an 8-ohm load, suited to amplifiers from 20W to 100W.
