Bowers & Wilkins 707 S3 Bookshelf Speakers - (Pair)

Overview

The Bowers & Wilkins 707 S3 is a compact two-way 700 Series bookshelf speaker that B&W says is easy to accommodate in smaller spaces. It pairs a Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter with a 5-inch Continuum cone bass/midrange driver on a curved baffle.

The Carbon Dome tweeter, purpose-built for the 700 Series, raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz, and the Continuum cone avoids the abrupt transitions of conventional cones for open, neutral voices. A Flowport vent handles the low end.

B&W rates the 707 S3 at 50Hz to 28kHz (±3dB), with a range of 45Hz to 33kHz, 84dB sensitivity, and an 8-ohm nominal load (minimum 4.0 ohms), suited to amplifiers from 30W to 100W. Stands are sold separately.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The 707 S3 is the smallest 700 Series stand-mount, at 300 mm tall and 165 mm wide. B&W designed it mainly for the FS-700 S3 stand; on a shelf or close to a wall, the supplied foam plugs keep the bass in check. The terminals support bi-wiring or bi-amping once the links are removed.

Why the Bowers & Wilkins 707 S3 Stands Out

Decoupled Carbon Dome Tweeter

Purpose-built for the 700 Series, B&W's Carbon Dome tweeter raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz for pinpoint imaging and detail.

5-Inch Continuum Cone Driver

A Continuum bass/midrange that avoids the abrupt transitions of conventional cones.

Curved Baffle

A curved front baffle in a cabinet sized for smaller spaces.

Flowport with Foam Plugs

Supplied foam plugs fit the port to reduce bass on a shelf or near a wall.

Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp Terminals

Remove the terminal links to bi-wire or bi-amp; B&W notes bi-wiring can improve the resolution of low-level detail.

Designed for the FS-700 S3 Stand

B&W designed it mainly for its FS-700 S3 floor stand, with shelf placement possible using the supplied foam plugs.

How It Compares

The 707 S3 is the compact 700 Series stand-mount; the 706 S3 steps up to a 6.5-inch Continuum cone for larger spaces. B&W's 607 S3 also uses a 5-inch Continuum cone, with a Titanium Dome tweeter.

Bowers & Wilkins 707 S3 Bookshelf Speakers - (Pair) FAQs

What amplifier power suits the Bowers & Wilkins 707 S3?

B&W recommends 30W to 100W into 8 ohms. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms (minimum 4.0 ohms) and sensitivity is 84dB.

Are stands included?

No. B&W designed the 707 S3 mainly for its FS-700 S3 floor stand, sold separately.

Can the 707 S3 go on a shelf?

Yes, though B&W notes it gives less flexibility to fine-tune the sound. Fit the supplied foam plugs in the ports to reduce bass in that position.

Can the 707 S3 be bi-wired or bi-amped?

Yes. Remove the terminal links and connect each pair of terminals to the amplifier or amplifiers separately.
