Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 Bookshelf Speakers - (Pair)

Overview

The Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 is the larger of the two stand-mount speakers in the 600 Series, a 2-way bookshelf speaker that B&W says offers the ideal combination of size and performance. It pairs B&W's new Titanium Dome tweeter with a 6.5-inch Continuum cone bass/midrange driver.

B&W designed the 606 S3 mainly for its FS-600 S3 floor stand, though it can sit on a shelf. The tweeter sits behind an acoustically transparent grille mesh first developed for B&W's Signature models, a Flowport vent handles the low end, and the speaker terminals borrow their improved layout and cleaner signal path from the 700 Series.

B&W rates the 606 S3 at 52Hz to 28kHz (±3dB) with 88dB sensitivity and an 8-ohm nominal load, suited to amplifiers from 30W to 120W. Stands are sold separately.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

For the best results, put the 606 S3 on the matching FS-600 S3 stands. B&W notes that shelf placement leaves less room to fine-tune the sound; if the speakers have to sit on a shelf or close to a wall, the supplied foam plugs in the ports keep the bass in check. The terminals support bi-wiring or bi-amping once the links are removed.

Why the Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 Stands Out

Titanium Dome Tweeter

B&W's new Decoupled Double Dome Titanium tweeter, behind a grille mesh first developed for its Signature models.

6.5-Inch Continuum Cone Driver

A Continuum cone bass/midrange that avoids the abrupt transitions of conventional cones, for open, neutral voices and instruments.

Flowport with Foam Plugs

Supplied foam plugs fit the port to reduce bass on a shelf or near a wall.

700 Series-Derived Terminals

An improved layout and cleaner signal path, with links you can remove for bi-wiring or bi-amping.

Designed for the FS-600 S3 Stand

Built mainly for B&W's dedicated floor stand, with shelf placement as an option.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Medium-Room Listener: Wants full stereo sound without the footprint of floorstanding speakers.
  • The Home Theatre Builder: Wants front or surround speakers for a 600 Series system with the HTM6 S3 centre.
  • The Bi-Wire Enthusiast: Wants terminals ready for bi-wiring or bi-amplification.

How It Compares

The 606 S3 is the larger 600 Series stand-mount; the 607 S3 uses a 5-inch Continuum cone for smaller spaces. B&W's 706 S3 also uses a 6.5-inch Continuum cone bass/midrange but steps up to a Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter.

Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 Bookshelf Speakers - (Pair) FAQs

What amplifier power suits the Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3?

B&W recommends 30W to 120W into 8 ohms. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms (minimum 3.7 ohms) and sensitivity is 88dB.

Are stands included?

No. B&W designed the 606 S3 mainly for its FS-600 S3 floor stand, sold separately.
