Audiolab DC Block Audio Grade Mains Filter & Direct Current Blocker (Black)

Overview

A humming amplifier is often a power problem, not an amplifier problem. The Audiolab DC Block is a single-outlet mains filter and DC blocker that sits between the wall and one component to clean up the power it receives.

Household mains can carry a small amount of DC, and Audiolab notes that less than 500mV can be enough to saturate the toroidal transformers used in many amplifiers. The DC Block blocks DC offset on the mains line, up to 1.2V.

An audio-class filter also removes RFI/EMI contamination, reducing differential-mode and common-mode noise from appliances and wireless devices. It is compact, includes overload protection, and comes with an IEC cable and power cord.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

The DC Block is the simple fix when one component, usually the amplifier, is the source of audible transformer hum. Put it on that component first; if you want to treat a whole system, the six-outlet DC Block 6 uses the same approach.

More Info

Why the Audiolab DC Block Stands Out

Blocks DC Offset

Blocks DC on the mains power line, up to 1.2V, to help prevent transformer saturation and hum.

RFI/EMI Filtering

An audio-class filter reduces differential-mode and common-mode noise on the mains supply.

Single-Component Design

One IEC in and out to treat the component that needs it most.

Overload Protection

Built-in protection with a maximum load of 8A.

Compact Size

At 113 mm wide and 0.7 kg, it fits easily behind or beside your equipment.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • The Hum-Troubled Owner: Hears transformer buzz from an amplifier.
  • The Single-Component Fix: Wants to treat one key component without a full power distributor.
  • The Small System: Has a compact setup where a full-width unit won't fit.

How It Compares

The Audiolab DC Block 6 uses the same DC blocking and high-frequency filtering across six outlets, with 8A per outlet and 10A total, in a full-width chassis. Choose the DC Block to treat one component, or the DC Block 6 for a complete system.

Audiolab DC Block Audio Grade Mains Filter & Direct Current Blocker (Black) FAQs

What does the Audiolab DC Block do?

It blocks DC offset on the mains supply (up to 1.2V), which can saturate amplifier transformers and cause hum, and filters RFI/EMI noise from the mains line.

How many components can the Audiolab DC Block power?

One. It has a single IEC in/out with a maximum load of 8A. For multiple components, the six-outlet Audiolab DC Block 6 is available.

What noise does the Audiolab DC Block filter?

Its audio-class filtering circuit reduces both differential-mode and common-mode RFI/EMI noise from household appliances and wireless interference.
